The selection of Sarah Palin demonstrates blatant cynicism of the American electorate.
Obama is called a celebrity of hype while Palin is hyped as a celebrity of the common person. She is being sold as someone you know, like, and trust. She's accessible. Her abilities are not important but the evasive illusion of her potential is. She is personable and spunky. People will be voting for an image, not someone who will care for their interests and do something based on that concern. When people vote for her what they really will be doing is choosing a corporate/political product that is being peddled by a Madison Avenue firm. And those voters will feel good about themselves for thinking they have chosen so wisely. The cynicism comes from giving a substantial amount of the masses an image that makes them feel good rather than asking for them to sacrifice to invest in their and their children's future. A choice between ice cream and spinach.

To a certain degree, it's working but not enough to prevail.

2. It is not the cynicism of the American electorate.
It is the cynicism of the political pundits who want to distract us from the real problems that need solving. They are truly fiddling while Rome is burning. I do not expect Obama to be able to solve everything, but nothing will get solved if he is not elected. I just hope that, if we are fortunate enough not to have this election stolen from us,he will have the strength to face the tidal waves of disasters that are breaking over this country, and indeed the entire world.

This seems to be the George Bush campaign again. The down home, everyday man or woman who is just like you! Get her out there acting all folksy, dropping the g off her ing words, when she needs to sound like, what, one of us? I look at her and see a bad actress. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. It just make me crazy that everyone can't see through her!
