McCain's Michigan concession may mean more than you think
(snip)

Was he really conceding Michigan in hopes that voters across the state, particularly young and black and progressive Obama supporters, would stay at home, believing that the victory was in the bag? That strategy was being circulated widely among political junkies around town who are watching every aspect of this race.

But as soon as I heard that, I thought: "Nah."

That would take planning and discussion. And he hadn't even bothered to tell his running mate in advance: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heard the news this morning, according to politico.com, and sent the senator an e-mail saying, "Oh, c'mon, do we have to?" The governor was willing to head to Michigan with her husband and fight.

Nope. this is just McCain giving up again. And right after Palin outperformed expectations in the only vice presidential debate.

Here's what voters in other battleground states must consider: If McCain will give up on Michigan, what would make voters in Pennsylvania and Ohio or Maine hope for better? If the polls shift or the winds turn, he might give up on them, too. And if he'll give up on a state, what makes you think he wouldn't give up on America?

5. Yes, where is the talk of the vaunted RNC cash machine now?
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 02:18 AM by GrizzlyMan
I think they had the cash they said they had, but what all the pundits missed is the fact most of that money was needed to help in their flagging efforts to not get destroyed in the senate and house races. As it is, it looks like epic fail on both fronts.

2. The RW will counter with the fact that Obama conceded North Dakota...
...but the difference is that North Dakota was never really in play. Michigan, on the other hand, was still a tiny possibility for McCain. And he turned tail and fled.

Obama's campaign will go to work on EVERY place that was at any time considered a swing state--including North Carolina, Missouri, Montana, and the Gulf Coast States. They may be longshots, but unlike McCain, we won't pull out til the election is done.

4. three things
1) McCain just spent $ 5 million in Michigan

2) Obama never said that he was conceding the state just moving resources

3) Obama is still opening up offices in red areas including near by Nebraska

12. It would be very hilarious to me if the GOP tried to counter McCain's Michigan pullout...
with Obama's ND pullout.

Yeah, because giving up MI's 17 EV is the same loss as ND's 3 EV. :sarcasm:

Please note the sarcasm was directed towards the GOP, not you. :)

6. Come on. Does anyone here really believe that McCain won't abruptly change course and go back to
fight for Michigan? First sign of any momentum he's going to claim that Michigan's back in play and it's full steam ahead.

I predict the McCain campaign will be back in Michigan in less than a week.

7. I sure hope so...
...it'd make his campaign look even more schizo than it already does, after that whole "suspension" deal.

10. He hasn't shown any signs of being rational or level-headed so far.
No reason to start now.

8. Michigan was just "suspended"
McCain will spend resources and time there until election day.

Or at least until the next debate.

11. This struck me as bothersome
Palin is currently under investigation, and one of the critizms is how much her husband was involved in her Administration.

So now she is on the VP slot for the Repukes and she says:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081004/ap_on_el_pr/palin
"Todd and I, we'd be happy to get to Michigan and walk through those plants of the car manufacturers," Palin said, referring to her husband. "We'd be so happy to get to speak to the people in Michigan who are hurting because the economy is hurting."

Todd?? she can't go by herself to MI? Who is watching the baby, Is she and Todd going to be meeting heads of state? If so we need to be vetting Todd a lot more than we have so far.

Not that I think they are going to win mind you, but if she is draggin him along on campaign stops
and she already has a history of letting him be and intricate part of her Gov. Administration.
We need to pay a little more attention to the snowmobile guy

14. He seems like a lot of redneck deadbeats I know
the kind of guys that only work an easy part time job, at best, but still go on and on about how they are the "master of the house, like the Bible says it should be". They'll whine for hours about how minorities and "women who don't need to work" have kept them from getting a decent job, but they really don't WANT to work and are looking for any excuse they can to explain why their wives outperform them as providers. The Democratic "Mr. Moms" I know never pull that schtick; they always simply state that their wives income is better than theirs, so they both decided that he should stay home with the kids as much as possible. No whining, just an acceptance of the way things are. Todd is no doubt another redneck bully who does as little as possible but still claims to those around him that his wife won't make a move without his consent-and maybe she doesn't!
