If you're against the Democratic ticket, get out of the way.
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 03:37 PM by Kerry2008
We have a month to win this thing.

And the polls are showing us winning, and winning big.

I too gave criticism of Barack Obama--but there is a time and place for that. And it's not now.

No campaign is perfect, nor is any candidate.

Obama is our best hope, and incredible candidate. He'll made a phenomenal President.

So either work for us, or against us. But get in line.

We have a month. Save all bitching and moaning for November 5th.

1. I'm with OP on this one.
If you want to complain, fine. Everyone needs to let off steam every once and a while. But if you are honestly not going to support Obama/Biden then do us all a favor and get the f*ck out of here.

2. Bingo. In the final month, all criticism should stop and we should all work. It's crunch time.
We don't have time to bitch and moan.

Save it for November 5th.

11. Agreed. The 3rd party sycophants
are responsible, IMO, for bringing us 8 years of disaster.

Ralph Nader is a narcissitic crazy old man that wants to be king not president.
He's right and everybody is wrong, but OH! WAIT!, he also told us last time around that Kerry was worse than Bush.

Yeah, right, go ahead and vote for him because Obama has ONE policy you don't like.

6. Here's a Rec. On Nov. 5th we can either be bitching and moaning about Obama or McCain.
I prefer that if I have any bitching to do that it would be about Obama because at least he will listen. There is not now, nor will there ever be the perfect candidate. Obama is not perfect and he would be the first to admit that he is not. The bailout bill is passed and signed, so let's get on with the business of electing Obama.

Obama has said from the beginning and repeatedly that he is not a perfect candidate and won't be a perfect president. When we disagree, he wants to hear from us. And it is this very humulity that draws me to him. Been a while since we're had that in a leader.

I'm not in charge

nevertheless, their motives are HIGHLY questionable

I don't think it falls into the category of "constructive criticism" at this time

62. You can't be saying the election process is "not" a democratic process?
That can't be right, since it is "by the people", whether voting machines screwed up or they stole it again. It is by the people.

Now is not the time to be going against Obama, and by going against the nominated candidate, which is under a democratic system, is a threat to democracy.

Take my comment how you want, but you won't see me threatening the nominated candidate in any democratic election.

Going against "...a government of, by and for the people..."through a "democratic process", is not "democratic".

39. The short answer is "no".
The long answer is that:-

:-I suspect this post was prompted more by people complaining about the bailout than by people complaining about gay marriage, although that's just a guess on my part.

:-"These things are getting fucking old" is certainly true - there have been people objecting to criticism of Democratic candidates for as long as there have been people criticising Democratic candidates. That doesn't mean those objections aren't valid.

:-"GLBT folks aren't welcome in your party" isn't true, and I suspect you don't believe it's true either. It is true that the Democratic party takes a less unambiguous stand on gay rights that I would like it to do if it didn't have to worry about winning elections, but a) it does, and b) that's a long, long way from "GLBT folks aren't welcome in your party". I'm sure you've heard it before, but "taking the course that will result in the most effective promotion of a cause" and "refusing to compromise in verbal support of that cause" are not the same thing.

:-"Criticism of candidates is forbidden" is partly true - *many forms of* criticism of the Democratic candidate *on DU* are forbidden.

:-I'm glad you're going to vote for Obama (I'm not, but I would if I were American).

55. Certainly seems like a "shut up queers" thread to me, no matter that it was posted
prior to the most horrid "shut up queers" thread I've ever seen here. There has been no bashing of Obama. I've only seen bashing of gay people who have expressed their disappointment.

We aren't shutting up, so, you may as well shut up yourself, or you're the one guilty of dragging this issue out. It would have been so easy for people (as some did) to have just said, "Yeah that was awful. I understand your hurt." Instead, we get accused of the most nefarious and outrageous things, and told to shut up and get in line. You being gay, if you are, just makes it worse that you're doing the bashing too.

61. Whether or not gays are a suspect class, the SCOTUS has the final say about what
"equal protection" means with respect to gays and marriage licenses. For that matter, the SCOTUS has the final say on which class is a "discrete and insular minority." Gays were not so classed in California or Massachusetts, but those courts, bless them, nonetheless found that the equal protection clause required giving gays marriage licenses.

For this and many other reasons, we need more liberal judges in state and federal courts, which means more Dems in the Oval Office and Governors' mansions.

Stop bad mouthing third parties and do something about the Electoral College.

bush the lesser "won" in 2000 because the regressive, anti-democratic Electoral College skews the entire election toward the pissant, unrepresentative small states to the detriment of the majority of the nation's People.

If you want to change it, push on your state legislators (especially in the more populous states -- CA, NY, PA, etc.) to sign a gentle-person's agreement with an electoral majority of states and pass laws to give ALL of their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the majority of the popular vote.

We don't need a Constitutional Amendment. It would be impossible anyway because we'd need 2/3 of the States to ratify and there are more than 1/3 pissant states -- enough to block ratification. All we'd need would be an agreement that it's time Wy-freackin-oming, and Id-Pissant-a-ho and Al-(puke)-Aska don't have proportionately more say than California, New York, Texas or Michigan!!!

Then we can tackle the first to the post bullshit with Instant Run-off Voting...

With the undemocratic Electoral College hamstrung and Instant Run-Off Voting we wouldn't have to vote for the lesser of two-weevils.

59. Here are the numbers!
Just California, New York, Florida, Penn, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, Mass, Indiana, Washington, Maryland and Minnesota could do it. These are what I'd call Dem and Toss-up states this year.

Total: 274 Votes -- 14 states to swing the election.

The next few States, in case one of the above can't be depended on are; Wisconsin, Colorado, Conn, Oregon...

about 15 or 16 of the 50 states could kick the Electoral College ASS out of the picture...might even force a Constitutional Amendment to remove it.

And don't forget INSTANT RUN-OFF VOTING. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting

I don't agree 100% on every single thing but I agree with almost 90%. I actually don't believe in extreme right or left government. Not that one has to govern in the "center" but that one should look at the problems of the nation and come to the best conclusion even if its not a typically Repub or Dem response. Obama seems like such a pragmatic realist. Shrub went with ideology all the time. I want someone who is thoughtful, not a knee jerk reactor.

Anyone who thinks they will get anything like a progressive agenda from the republicans is certifiable. Anyone who thinks voting for a third party is a great way to express their outrage is helping elect the republican ticket.
