Palin's ridiculous "wink" will be the lasting impression of this debate ...
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 02:47 PM by Alhena
Drudge has been posting the photo all day- he apparently thinks it makes some kind of positive impression. Maybe for those like him who watch her speeches and debates with a bottle of hand lotion and kleenex handy.

But for those of us who actually take American democracy and our leaders seriously, it leaves an AWFUL impression. For some strange reason, the American Republic was able to survive for over two centuries without having a presidential or vice-presidential candidate flirt and wink at us. JFK had sex appeal, but it was effortless and accompanied by actual competence.

The LASTING impression of this silly debate is going to be that ridiculous photo of her winking during a presidential debate. And that impression won't be a positive one for most people.

The whole thing is just incredibly insulting that she thinks she can Gidget her way to the highest office in the land.

1. It really puzzles me how anyone could find that wink charming
Wonkette linked a very, um, exuberant endorsement of Palin's wink from a dude at the National Review. Read between the lines, people.

"A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It’s one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O’Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I’m sure I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, “Hey, I think she just winked at me.” And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and man, she’s got it."

9. I wasn't alive for JFK. Can someone tell me
Did JFK tend to wink a lot, pop his eyes open and lick his teeth? Wiggle suggestively? I mean, I know women found him attractive back then, but somehow he was still able to gain the respect of American men.

Can you imagine JFK acting like Palin before the election, and getting ANY VOTES AT ALL from men?

10. Republicans have always given whoredom a bad name.
St. Ronnie was the quintessential rouged wonder.

Those lips knew how to work a TV crowd.
