What are we going to do about Tuesday's Debate? BrokeJaw and selected Town Hall Audience
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 01:26 PM by FrenchieCat
Is not a good mix for our candidate.

Is there any Pre-Debate preparations we can do?

How are these "Town Hall" questionners and Email going to be picked. If it is BrokeJaw at the helm, this won't play well for us.

We need to put pressure on BrokeJaw, and we need to do this now.

McCain needs a gamechanger, and I believe that if BrokeJaw can help in this matter, he will.

He has admitted to being a good friend of John McCain, and everytime he opens his mouth, he speaks in McCain Campaign talking points.

3. I'm wrong just checked it is in Nashville.
Why are you concerned about Obama's ability to debate in a town hall forum. Everyone said that he would be poor last week and that sure as hell did not happen.

4. Brokaw will have little influence on the debate
In a town hall scenario the moderator is little more than a traffic cop.

10. Who picks the questioners? Who determines the questions?
You decides which Email are read outloud?

The moderator is more than a traffic cop.

5. David Axelrod Has Already Called Brokaw Out
KO reported, when discussing the Ifill contro, that Axelrod said, given his closeness to the McCain campaign that Brokaw will be held to the same standard. And I noticed that last night Brokaw's comments regarding the Obama campaign were much more careful than they've been in the past. I think Move-on, the petition and call and letters to NBC and the debate committee have put him on notice.

12. That's a relief
A blatantly biased moderator in a town hall setting is the biggest foreseeable danger. As long as Brokaw remains on good behavior, we should be OK.

8. Obama will be fine.
McCain's wanted the Town-hall format all campaign - i think after Tuesday he'll be happy he didn't get what he whinged for.

My only concern is the intellect of the audience in Tennessee.

11. Obama did fine in the flag pin debate
with Stephi and Charlie.

I think he'll be able to handle any Gotcha's from Brokaw.

If they start talking about flag pins or Rev. Wright with the economy in shambles like it is...well the audience at home and in studio will turn on the moderator

14. This is the hardest debate format to prep for. Advantage Obama.
Looking at previous town hall style debates, they are the hardest to prep for and the most likely to produce questions that require spontaneous thought. I remember when bush was called on his glee about the death penalty and he was unable to respond coherently.

20. I think the bar has been set very high for McCain and very low for Obama...
especially since Obama has refused to accept McCain's REPEATED attempts to have Obama at a town hall with him. But as we know, Obama is VERY good at answering questions from regular people-even those he disagrees with. McCain, on the other hand, lies to voters who question his record and doesn't look very comfortable answering anyone who DARES disagree with him. I bet this will be another "surprise" win for Obama. :)
