Poll question: McCain quits Michigan - what state is next?
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:47 AM by grantcart
If you missed it yesterday McCain quit Michigan.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7290404&mesg_id=7290404

There is only one reason to quit a swing state completely: lack of resources.

What state do you think McCain is going to quit next?

Here is where he has spent big his money to date:

4. None of the above
Wisconsin and Minnesota are the most logical to withdraw from. They have small electoral vote counts. Unless they are somehow more favorable than Pennsylvania, they should be the next to go.

McCain CANNOT withdraw from any former Bush state. That would be as good as conceding the election.

10. I agree, he won't win those states either
He'll eventually leave them to focus on hold other states in the ares, like Indiana and Ohio.

5. The good thing is McCain has to win all of these states.
And he won't win PA. If Obama only takes one of the other states in your poll, he is president.

6. He "suspended" his campaign too, NOT. I don't trust anything they say.
Someone from MI was saying he was still running ads in MI yesterday.

Who knows. I don't think Obama will let up in any of the contested states regardless of what old McStuntDaddy does. Full speed ahead!

16. We've been getting the Tsunami of McCain ads for months
I think McCain started going strongly after Michigan way back in June. This summer has been pretty bad. I have noticed Republican ads starting to take the place of offical McCain ads, so I guess we're not going to get as big of a break from McCain as I had hoped.

He's way behind and it's only 7 electoral votes.

11. Initially I thought Virginia, but I think eventually he'll be reduced to defending
against gains Obama is making in traditional red states. Trying to flip PA's 21 could be a moot point if Obama flips Virginia's 13 and North Carolina's 15.

And Ohio and Florida are trending our way--without both those states McCain can kiss the White House goodbye.

This place is sick with the stench of that asshole. Fortunately I'm headed to St Louis MO tomorrow. I wonder what level of McCain stink is wafting around there?

19. Sorry, but Ohio is a tooth-and-nail state for McCain...
Perhaps THE tooth-and-nail state for McCain. You won't be getting rid of him until Nov. 4, or whenever he decides to throw in the towel.

14. Wisconsin.
I think the RNC is gonna help out with Indiana. And McPalin is throwing everything they have into FL and VA.

I kinda like the idea of leaving Bubba down in the Sunshine State all month. He's done great so far. Take him to Miami and Tampa... put him up in a really nice suite and just let him blast the ever-lovin' hell out of the Republicans and Bush. He really connects with those voters.

20. And good riddance!
I agree with another poster, Iowa is probably next. Maybe Wisconsin. Too little electoral muscle, too much money to get even with Obama, let alone get ahead.

21. Yo! I need to change my vote from Colorado to Wisconsin!
It is not fair to add a new state after I've voted!

I had voted Colorado because I don't think PA or any of the Big Three (PA, FL, OH) will go next. That would mean the race is over, and the MSM would have to admit it.

22. When discussing the MI pullout, the teevee said Obama had pulled out of AK, ND, and GA.
Any truth to that claim?

Sorry, but I don't recall who said it. Nor do I recall which news network.

26. Key difference: Those aren't swing states.
Michigan is. Or at least it was. This is the first swing-state concession of the election season. That's why it's such big news.

28. ND is true but as has been noted never considered close and not a state
Obama needs. McCain needs to keep it close in all the states listed to remain close.

29. Too many holes in the dam, not enough fingers
McSame had wanted to put 5dem states in play: PA, MI, MN, WI, and IA

MI is now done. He'll pull out of the rest in this order

In PA, I'm guessing he ignored the Santorum defeat, and bought Rove's conservative T strategy. It doesn't seem to be working.

WI seems to be staying pretty much in our column

IA is just about done. His ethanol comments probably killed any remaining chance, although Steve King's district (Co Bluffs/Sioux City/Spencer) is still pretty red.

MN is about the only one of these 5 that McSame has any chance, and it'll be the last of these 5 he'll leave, because his efforts indirectly support Norm Coleman, and they consider this a salvagable senate seat. If their party goes to sleep here, Coleman is toast.

At this point, he's going to have to fight like Hell just to keep all the Bush states, and the more money and resources they have to spend to keep/regain OH, FL, VA, NC, and CO, the more states like MO and IN suddenly pop into play. Unless McSame can pull off a game changer in Tuesday's debate (and one wonders about this, since he had to loan his debate coach to Sarah), I don't see how he can keep all the balls in the air.
