a truly deft, restrained performance.
First his demeanor: he was relaxed, smiling, respectful without condescension, chuckled and was nonplussed at Palin's attacks, but most of all MATCHED/ EXCEEDED the "I care about YOU, we CARE about the middle class and we UNDERSTAND your struggles".... while Palin nattered on about "tax cuts hurting job creation" yadda yadda. He did not cede Palin ONE INCH on her "hockey mom" , folksy pitch in a way that, in my opinion, was the most memorable moment of the night: talking about how not just hockey moms understand the struggles of the average American family as a single parent after his wife and child were killed and "not knowing" if your kid is going to make it...
He did nothing to anger or offend female voters, and he did not cede Palin one inch on selling herself as THE "Joe-six pack" candidate... she did not walk away with that title, which is supposed to be her great virture to the ticket.
