Don't forget about the 92 VP Debate
It was similar to the circumstances from last night. Quayle was perceived as the moron prior to the debate and expectations were kept low. Gore was the smart, experienced Senator. Quayle held his own and surprised people that he didn't come across as a dummy like he did against Bentsen. Gore clearly won the debate on points, but the story the next day was basically "Quayle hung in there and didn't get pummeled."

Despite this, it didn't matter. Clinton still won in a landslide.

1. That is how the media is going to spin all the debates
Headline for LA Times this morning:

Palin and Biden spar in VP debate but neither deals a knockout

"but neither deals a knockout"
