Palin lost because she was speaking to the only part of America she knows: The Base.
This is why I think she's being hammered in the polls. She spoke as if she was at one of her rallies, not once trying to reach out to independents. Those "East Coasters"? What the fuck???

Lady, in case McCain didn't tell you, this is the part of the election where you try to woo everyone else. And you blew it.

2. And that's precisely why she had no chance of winning.
These people have stuck to the base formula for so long, they're oblivious that there's more to this country.

3. Pub's Aren't Reality-Based
You're exactly right, Palin spoke only to the base. They don't particularly care about what IS. They care about their ILLUSIONS of what "is." They have bought the Willie Loman myth: i.e., that a person with sufficient will can simply declare the world to be what they want it to be. That hallucination eventually destroyed Willie Loman, just as it seems FINALLY to be destroying the Republican Right.

I for one will be glad to see these people go back under the rock they emerged from in 1980.

4. Agreed. She pitched to her base, and reassured them.
No sale to indies. They always say they hate when candidates do not answer the question asked, and they hate it when a candidate attacks the other one.

8. I have to disagree. She HAS the base. It's pretty certain they're going nowhere.

This is a fight for swing states, undecideds and independents. And she made no effort to try and woo them to her side.

14. I really think Palin was chosen because McCain was losing anyway, and Palin would bring out the base
in a way that will help the Repub ticket down-ballot in red states. She will not help McCain win, but she'll help prevent Repub state house losses in the South and Mountain Time Zone red states so they won't lose the power to gerrymander those states for another decade.

7. that's exactly what we said earlier (in my home)
the left and right coasts don't count. Everyone in between and to the north and south are fine though. Obama and Biden talk to ALL of us.

9. Not the base. A sub-section of the base. She attacked THE ENTIRE EAST COAST, folks
She really is so provincial that she doesn't understand that saying alaska is a microcosm is absurd... and calling her family "very diverse" is also absurd. She truly just doesnt know better.

She is not reflecting even the majority of GOP voters.

11. I agree, especially with the white flag comment
In the debates you usually have to win over the undecideds. Though she was losing support with the base too. But someone mentioned that the fact she has to worry about shoring up her base at this late date means she's in trouble.
