1. Yes, that inteview was a gift to us.
Because of course that's not really what McCain intended; but the only way to explain that is to admit that he didn't recognize the *name* of the head of the Spanish government when he was asked about him.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

4. is McCain just going to let that gaffe stand?
Is he stuck, now that it's been mentioned and not denied in two debates now, with trying to defend an indefensible position? By now, people have forgotten that he didn't know the guy's name--they just think WTF? Why wouldn't he deal with the Spanish government?

Yay, just what we need--another stupid-stubborn president.

8. His campaign "clarified" that it was not a gaffe, but intentional

They figured they'd bluff out the "gaffe" charge - at the expense of relations with Spain, for crying out loud.

5. The interviewer clarified twice, though

At the outside, it could have been an accent/hearing problem.

But this is the guy that wanted to pull Spain's troops out of the MNF, so McCain could have known exactly what he was saying.

McCain has NEVER clarified either. At the Obama/McCain debate, he said, "I'm not making up the WH guest list."

He didn't say - "Of course I'll sit down with the President of Spain."

And - his campaign attempted to spin the incident AS intentional. So you gotta take them at their word there.

6. They keep trying to get them to explain that, but they never take the bait.
