When Palin gets kudos on the debate you can bet your bippy it's because...
she exceeded appalling low expectations for a VP candidate.

About 20 minutes in I found myself thinking, "goodness, she's holding her own." And then I realized it was because I expected her to foam at the mouth and sputter gibberish. When I evaluated her based on realistic criteria for a vice presidential candidate it was clear she was way out of her league.

All she proved was that she could memorize pithy folksy crap that will play well to the right-wing base but will shriek of nails on a blackboard to the rest of us.

I spotted oodles of opportunities for Biden to slip in some real zingers so I confess to some disappointment there. I think he could have done it without looking "mean and sexist" so I'm not sure why he let slide.

Overall, I think the debate went overwhelmingly to Biden but I'll grant I'm biased. Intelligence and experience will sway me any day over bottled charm and memorized sound bites.

2. It's hard to zinger more than once
She got stuck and repeat a lot of stump speech material. Particularly in the second half. I think people that drifted from the debate early liked Palin a whole lot more than those that watched her go missing in action in the second half.

3. It's called beating the spread
And when a terrible team is a 35 point underdog in football and only loses by two touchdowns, you may win your bet, but it doesn't mean you still don't suck.

7. It's not hard to improve on her previous performances...
and her supporters were going to claim she hit it out of the park as long as she didnt collapse in an incoherent heap on the floor.

8. After debating righties on a mixed site I've come to the
conclusion that they confuse pithy, snarky comments for wit and intelligence. The hate radio and coulteristic writings have replaced reason and rational thought. That is why she scored so high on fox and drudge.

9. The post-debate polls back you up!
:hi:

In any case, I don't think this'll make much of a difference in the polls. VP debates just don't have a significant impact on elections, though I'm glad America got to know Biden a bit better.

And yeah, speaking as a fiery liberal, I'd say Joe kicked ass and took names. :D
