Thank Goodness, Palin Skated Well Enough To Stay on the Ticket
Palin didn't fall on her face in this debate, for which we Obama supporters should be eternally grateful. Had the Palin of the Couric interviews showed up tonight, McCain would have been forced by the wealthy Republican branch of the party to replace her on the ticket and all of the vast store of ammunition against Palin already accumulated would have been wasted. Now, whether McCain wants to kick her off the ticket or not, he simply cannot oust her. The religious right would eat his nuts for breakfast.

Palin's debate boot camp got her through the 90 minutes with only a few gaffs and the standard (for Palin) string of lies, although that Ohio focus group on CNN weren't taken in by her phony folksiness. She firmed up support with her right wing base, but won't bring many undecided votes to McCain. Presidential she was not. The undecideds who moved, went with Biden, who was brilliant.

The Obama-Biden campaign must be feeling terrific right now, I know I'm feeling enormously relieved.

1. I was just saying this before the debate tonight! Palin is winning this election for us.
We're still more than a month out from the election, and if she'd seriously embarrassed herself, McCain could've replaced her and recovered from it in plenty of time before the election. As it is, he's stuck with Palin, who basically appeals to the Country Bear Jamboree wing of the Republican party and no one else. Her Wasilla Hillbilly antics make her seem an unserious choice for the vice presidency, and McCain's stuck with her.
