Reagan as a campaigner was just a collection of soundbites and stump speeches.

Carter destroyed him in the only debate in 1980 when it came to facts, but Reagan came across as a charismatic "nice guy." That debate won Reagan the Presidency shifting the polls from about dead even to a landslide. All Reagan needed to do was give his stump speeches and sound like he knew something that vaguely sounded like information during the debate. Palin was on the same path tonight.

However, Reagan had a lot more practice than Palin has so far. Palin does not yet have enough script lines, but when she does, watch out she'll be dangerous because she had folksy charisma (which plays well). It may well be Huckabee against Palin in 2012 (assuming an Obama victory). Who will out folksy whom.
