3. Yeah, and fucking MCClellan could only beat Lee
when he lucked into getting a copy of LEe's Order of Battle.

And he still nearly lost when he had that advantage, too!

Antietem!

9. I thought Sharpsburg or Antietam was a stalemate

I think the late arrival of A.P. Hill's division from Harper's Ferry drove back Burnside and saved Lee's army. The next day, neither army would advance and then Lee pulled his forces back south. At least that's how I remember it, but you may be technically be correct, as it did stop Lee's campaign to invade the North.

13. IT was a technical victory
and allowed Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation forcing Britain and France's hands. This was why the South was never recognized as a seperate nation.

So in that sense, it was perhaps the most important victory of the war. Without Antietem, the North would have lost.

19. McClellan blew a great opportunity

He had one of the most indecisive moments in an indecisive military career. The day after the battle, Lee held his lines and defied McClellan to attack him. Both armies had lost a lot of men. But McClellan had an extra Corps of 23,000 men in reserve that was fresh and that hadn't fought the day before. Lee had no fresh reserves. If McClellan had had more faith in his army, he might have destroyed Lee right then and ended the war. He didn't attack. McClellan's men fought bravely and well and he stopped Lee's campaign. But I can't give him credit for a complete military victory because of his indecision. Most historians regard the actual battle as a tactical draw. McClellan's indecision and Lincoln's disappointment in McClellan's behavior at Antietam is the main reason he was removed from command of the Army of the Potomac shortly thereafter. As Lincoln said: "If General McClellan does not want to use the army, I would like to borrow it for a time."

Abe Lincoln relieved him of his Command of the Army of the Potomac and replaced him with U.S. Grant. I often wondered what he had been doing all these years. Did you see Joe Biden just smiled and let it go.

On edit: You know McCain was probably telling her about serving under McClellan and she got confused.

"Anyone would make a mistake like that"......could you imagine if Obama and Biden would've called him by the wrong name?

No such thing! The Taliban. Period. Jalal Talabani is a famous Iraqi Kurd.
