What Dukakis should have said during debate
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 04:55 PM by Tallison
in response to the question about whether he'd support the death penalty against the theoretical rapist and murderer of his wife:

"I don't know if I would, which is why I wouldn't never make the jury in such a trial. That's not a fair context within which to craft objective judgment."

End of answer.

3. He should have told the questioner to fuck a duck
He would have won in a landslide if he said "What the fuck kind of question is that, asshole? Is this what you sit around thinking about? Fuck you."

4. Well, I meant...beside that
Wonder if there's a time delay in the debate's broadcast for just such a case.

10. Then Bernie turns to Bush and says, "Mr Vice President. If your duck was raped and murdered..."

5. Exactly - when they pull that crap, just say: I could not be objective
in that situation and that's why we have a legal system.

6. I would have said...
Can we leave the spouses out of this? Asking an hypothetical question about my wife being raped and murdered is pretty much out of line in my book.

8. Uh, what year is this?
DU where history is rehashed just for the sake of rehashing it.

11. CNN today replayed 'moments in debate history'
which, yes, inspired this thread.

14. And I threw out an old telephone book today, that didn't inspire me to
start a thread about it.

Let me guess: You're one of those who goes for the 'emotional damages'?

17. Nothing, because I just blocked it
I live for tomorrow. Not like those here who think that Clinton is to blame for everything, old debates are worth rehashing, and trying to fix a rusted out shitbox is a good way to spend time.

9. Sorry, but "That's not a fair context within which to craft objective judgment" stinks
That was the problem with his answer... too dry, too heartless. The correct response would be to become enraged, jump across the stage, grab Poppy Bush by the collar screaming, "and I'll bet this fucker planned the whole thing!" and proceed to pummel the Vice President until his face was mush.

If that doesn't bring the Reagan Democrats back home, nothing will.

13. No, what he should have said was this:
"Listen to me. Anybody- ANYBODY fucks with my family, I will personally rip off their head and shit down their neck"

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

Besides, it probably would have won the election for him.

16. Wow, that's possibly the only answer more unemotional and clunky than the one he gave.
