Why do Democrats always nominate the most liberal
member of the Senate?

Remember Gore had "the most liberal voting record in the Senate," then Kerry somehow caught up withim and passed him up, and now Obama. You would think we might go for the person with the second or third most liberal voting record.

I know Bernie's not a Dem but he votes the party line more often than most Dems. But yeah even Leahy and Kerry are probably "to the left" of Obama in practice.

21. I may be mistaken but I think the OP is being
sarcastic. No matter what DEM gets nominated they will have the "most liberal reconrd" in the Senate.

6. weird, isn't it
Sort of makes you think that the title of "most liberal" is not based on actual analysis of voting records, but is instead a talking point manufactured by some right-wing organization.

31. Robert Greenwald
Did a video package featuring a side-by-side comparison of the Fox News coverage of Kerry in 2004 and Obama this year and the similarities between the comments/arguments about both candidates were, to put it mildly, quite amazing. The "most liberal" meme was, not surprisingly, one such similarity.

Obama is a moderate. the "most liberal" may be Feingold but it sure ain't Obama, unless they have all taken a hard right turn.

22. Not this year,
This year the National Journal says that Biden and Obama both have the most liberal voting records. And it must be true becase they are the leading source for non-partisan political information (you don't even have to ask them, it's right on their web-site).

27. Well Blue Meany, no matter who would be put up, the oppostion
would find a way of saying they are the most "liberal" as if it were a dirty word. And they have been trying for 20 years to demonize the word liberal and democratic party (trying now to say democrat)

Some tried to side step it by becoming "progressives" and that was demonized. So we could call ourselves eyelashes, and there would be a 24/7 attempt to demonize the word eyelashes.

It is not about being a liberal.. A liberal is a wonderful thing, that literally means a person who takes everyone opinion into consideration before making a decision. Someone who listens.

So by the nature of being part of the democratic party, we do listen, sort and then make our stands.

Its all good

The term "most liberal voting record" is what the GOP applies to our candidates. Their use of the term does not make it a true statement.
