I'll start - Dred Scott.

It's a classic but always a safe go-to case to go with if you need to come up with a really bad Supreme Court Decision. But then again there is always Gore v. Bush - now THAT was a fucked up ruling

1. Bush v. Gore has to be the biggest, in my opinion.
This was a states issue, the SCOTUS had no business getting involved.

That was when I lost all faith in the SCOTUS. Before that I thought they were supposed to at least try to appear to be nonpartisan. They suck.

30. When the Court says: this opinion should not
be cited as authority in any subsequent case, you know they came up with a results oriented decision. Worst decision of the last 50 years.

10. Gore v. Bush was probably the most corrupt
But I would like to point out that as a Journalism major, Sarah surely must have learned about a number of Supreme Court cases that addressed First Amendment Issues. Or perhaps she was busy filling out her tranfer paperwork at that time.

Miller being quite famous. Then of course there was the Pacifica case, when a challenge was made to George Carlin's "seven words."

since I live in Santa Clara county, not too far from the SP tracks (now maintained by Caltrans, who are doing a much better job providing commuter service, IMHO).

The obvious one to disagree with is Dred Scott v. Sandford, although there are a lot of dubious commerce-related ones from the late 19th century.

38. The recent decision on handguns in Washington DC.
Personally, I think the gun issue is a states issue and I didn't like to see them get involved. However, I also know that it is a 2nd Amendment issue and I am not against the 2nd, and I can see why they did decide to hear the case. So, if Couric were to ask me, I'd have a complex thought process in which to pontificate upon, thereby giving people an opportunity to see how I weigh my opinions. This was a golden opportunity that Palin missed... miserably.

(This isn't intended to become a wicked subthread on guns.)
