ACTION ITEM: If we all do this AFTER the debate tonight
We are all pretty well fluent of writing blogs, using online posts, sending electronic mail to newspapers for letters to the editor, etc. There's over 100,000 members on DU.

If we all took 20 minutes tonight, stepped aay from DU and wrote just ONE letter to the editor of out local paper, made time tomorrow to call on talk radio show, posted our thoughts on the debate on some news sites, and all chipped in $3 to the Obama campaign (that would be $300,000 for the math challenged) this could be a historic time for us.

1. I will do this. It's a great idea and thank you for posting it.
I love that it is so easy and can be done right at the computer. There are many, many people out here who have a hard time going to volunteer for health reasons or employment reasons and this is a wonderful way for them to be able to contribute. I include myself in that category since a lot of times I'm too sick to go door to door.

Again, thank you and I highly recommend this post and the action you suggest.

2. Good idea.
It's important to frame the outcome of the debate. Gov. Palin's growing unpopularity has a lot to do with the blogosphere framing her early on.

3. Kicked especially for folks with any kind of disability who want to
do something positive for the campaign, but whose challenges make it difficult to participate.

4. Great! We need for Obama's donations to spike after the debate.
That's more meaningful than voting in those goofy, easily freeped and DU'd online polls. Money talks.

5. In the hour after that debate, Donations to the Obama/Biden campaign should be ...
... the most they have ever received in any hour. That would be a worthy objective of a DU Activist call to action?? If you think so, maybe you'd want to contact Skinner, et al., directly.

6. Yeah, 100,000 members

Maybe 15,000 tops actually using the site. Still, that could make quite an impact.

7. And to add one more suggestion: call into C-SPAN
No doubt they will be taking calls immediately following the debate, as they often do. And there's always a certain percentage of callers who are obviously on the GOP payroll, reading scripted talking points. No doubt they already have their orders to paint Moosealini as the Second Coming of Reagan, no matter how pathetic she sounds tonight.

10. And $3 and 20 minutes toward ELECTION INTEGRITY
For a list of groups deserving of your donation, go to:

The STEALING AMERICA: Vote By Vote action site

(to see a trailer for the film itself click here)

What's something you can DO in 20 minutes that can support election integrity in a significant way?

Choose a candidate or a few who you think might need to challenge their election. Choose a presidential candidate, a Congressional candidate, a local candidate, one of each. Send a note to them encouraging them to take the Standing For Voters pledge. Ten candidates have already signed. Check out on the website who they are. Which presidential candidate do you think has signed the pledge?

Here's the text of the pledge:

I, _________________, pledge to use my candidacy, whenever feasible, to advance the preservation of democracy. I will officially challenge the results of the election as provided by law if the combination of election conditions, incident reports, and announced election results calls into question the reliability of the official vote count. Should another candidate be declared the winner in my race, I will wait until all valid votes are counted and all serious challenges resolved before conceding defeat.

There's also a "Super Pledge." Check the website.

The attack on democracy is in full force. We must all work to stop the dirty tricks and get the fairest election possible!
