How do you think progressive 527s should respond to anti-Obama ads?
There's going to be a flurry of anti-Obama ads from right to life groups, the NRA, and others, saying things like Obama wants to kill babies, supports teaching toddlers about sex, and is in bed with terrorists, corrupt financiers, and anti-white black people. They are going to try to make Obama seem like a foreigner who may have some other agenda. These ads are going to be just awful, and will probably influence some people. I think the airwaves and even the mail are going to filled with these kinds of things, especially after the second debate.

But, progressives, too, have their 527s. In the last elections, progressives remained relatively dignified and did not hit below the belt, but this time? I hope they go after McCain and his adultery, his handling of MIAs, his relationship to Keating, his association with Oleg Deripaska, his womanizing, his temper, and so on. Do you think 527s should fight fire with fire or take the high road again?

1. I suppose you missed the progressive 527 ads?
Moveon has already had an ad out along with Planned Parenthood, Democracy for America (doing a hit on McCain's health), and a POW/vets group.

3. The problem with the POW/Vets 527 is that these are
the same people who went after Kerry and they lost credibility over that. As well, the ads have a tendency to piss off even Democrat Veterans and many of the current soldiers who might vote for Obama. Using that group is probably a waste on Moveon's money. The other two, good ones.

2. How about this
Don't give a lot of time to the attack ads of the opponents just start each rebuttal or preferably positive ad with the statement 'The right-wing and the Republican party are lying to you again. Barack Obama does not believe/intend to X here is what he does believe/intend' and continue from there. Call a lie a lie show why it is and move on. If you get to caught up in in depth descriptions of why they are lying you lose people with short attention spans or you become totally reactive as they throw more and more lies into the public arena. Just repeat 'they are lying' over and over again like they do their talking points.
