The Denver Police Union is almost as funny as Police Academy IV
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 12:07 PM by JohnnyRingo
...Almost, but not quite.

This t-shirt has been distributed by the Denver police Union:

I'm not without humor, even dark and twisted humor, and indeed I appreciate the depth of wordplay here. I understand that not all officers are Democrats and probably had a good laugh at the expense of people exercising free speech rights.

...however

What really bothers me is that this was printed by the Denver Police Union. Do they assume Reagan Republicans wish to bury unions from coast to coast while leaving their bargaining unit intact? Are they aware how un-Republican they are by demanding higher wages, health care, and safe working conditions under the threat of strikes, blue flu, and call offs?

Maybe the Denver Police should be good Repubs, and dissolve their collective bargaining unit, sending each officer individually before city hall to negotiate their own contracts. Overall wages would fall, some would make more, some would make less, but that's the basis of letting the market decide how much a cop's time is worth per hour.

Any self respecting Republican will tell them that's the best way to save tax money because every officer would be compensated on his or her own merits, with discretion held solely by the Mayor and his staff. This would also serve to streamline the department by promoting ass kissers and cut the deadwood with selective firing of troublemakers. Any Republican will tell them this would be win/win for the taxpayers of Denver.

Fuck you DPD. Be real republican party animals, and turn in your union cards.
After the city cuts costs in safety services, maybe you can seek work as air traffic controllers.

1. They just damned themselves in lawsuits
Anybody injured during the protests now has some pretty good evidence the Denver Police overstepped teh bounds of their authority and used more force than was necessary.

This is indicative of a climate of violence being fostered within the force.

Denver may be paying for this for some time to come.

2. sad part is, there are a lot of good cops who wouldn't dream of wearing
or supporting something like that.

it paints all cops with a broad, bush-era, rambo wannabe brush. and that's a small, though growing, minority.
