Best RW comment on Palin's mangled "right to privacy" response
From the WSJ Law Blog (direct link):

Sorry, but I don’t want that clueless, idiotic woman to be only one geriatric heartbeat away from naming the next SCOTUS nominee.

I’m voting for Ron Paul.

Priceless!

2. I couldn't decide if she heard Couric's response to that statement
or if she just sailed on despite it. To Palin's affirmative about the right to privacy, Katie Couric said, "That's the cornerstone of Roe v. Wade." Palin just kind of talked over her at that point, so I wonder if she even realizes what she said.

3. That was scary.
She has no idea why Roe v. Wade made abortion legal.

Now I have a better appreciation for Presidents with law degrees.

7. In a way it was a gotcha question though.
Having a right to privacy seems so obvious, yet Right Wingers insist we don't so they can defend against Roe v. Wade.

20. for someone who thinks they should be VP, it's not
a gotcha. That's a pretty basic issue around the Constitution, and really, someone in her position should know her way around it at least minimally.

6. Law degrees? My daughter's HIGH SCHOOL Constitutional law class
studied the decision at length three years ago. My daughter chose to argue the case against it because the entire class at her prep school was for it and they needed at least one person to look into the other side's arguments.

She's now happy to be voting and canvassing for Obama

10. We had civics in HS back in the early 70s, complete with mock trials
and such. I don't think civics is taught anymore.

11. She loved the course
The school was to have an excellent history teacher who, seeing the interest when cases were briefly spoken of in the history or government classes, proposed teaching it years before. (at least that is what I heard from other parents)

12. Consider yourself lucky (kinda) - one of our high school Government teachers
was also a state legislator. We had a segment where we had to write bills and have them voted on for passage. (which of course meant we had to do the research to ensure what we desired wasn't already covered federally or by state law or local ordinance). It certainly was a good lesson - but at 17 (and I was clueless) :banghead:

A lot of work, but more fun than doing research then writing a report.

13. She couldn't name any she disagreed with
Brutal: Palin can’t name a single Supreme Court case she disagrees with other than Roe v. Wade

As recently as last year, Brown v. Board of Education (isn't this elementary school?) was being prominently discussed in the news.

Considering that McCain proudly states that he would appoint Justices like Alito and Roberts, what's her opinion of the decision under Roberts?

9. I like this post:
When you are a federalist, you support the federal government’s right to decide for all states. Palin is anti-federalist — she supports states deciding over the federal body.

She’s also anti-federalist on the drilling in ANWR issue (and others). She supports Alaska being able to make that decision, not Washington.

She does not know what a federalist is. She doesn’t know what she is and what she isn’t.

15. Wow. Wayne actually doesn't know what a federalist is...
Per Wikipedia:

In the United States the term federalist usually applies to a member of one of the following groups:

Historic

* Statesmen and public figures supporting ratification of the proposed Constitution of the United States between 1787 and 1789. The Federalist Papers are documents associated with their movement.
* Statesmen and public figures supporting the administrations of Presidents George Washington (1789–1797) and John Adams (1797–1801). Especially in the later years they were also called the Federalist Party, founded by Alexander Hamilton. It opposed the Democratic-Republican Party during the 1800s.

Contemporary

In contemporary usage, as articulated by president Bush's New Federalism, federalists advocate the principle of greater regional autonomy within the United States—usually by allowing individual states to set their own agendas and determine the handling of issues, rather than trying to impose a nationally uniform solution.

The Federalist Society for Law & Public Policy Studies is an organization of conservative and libertarian lawyers and others dedicated to debate of these principles.

The World Federalist Movement. "World federalists support the creation of democratic global structures accountable to the citizens of the world and call for the division of international authority among separate agencies."
