It is cruel to allow McCain to continue this campaign.
There's something in John McCain's eyes and jaw that tells me he is fighting this in the same way he fought his captors. He has summoned up absolute grit and self-discipline of a kind that none of the rest of us will ever need to look for in ourselves.

This is his last, supreme battle and it is against time and disease -- adversaries more relentless than even the Viet Cong were.

He's fighting because that's what a soldier does. To the end. Never give up. Never give an inch. Thumbs up despite how much he's hurting.

And that is why it is cruel to allow him to continue.

Yesterday we saw him in a humiliating moment -- some doctors say it was most likely a mini-stroke that made his face contort and his speech soften and his brain become disoriented.

It is inhumane to allow him to deteriorate before our very eyes, as he surely will.

Those who love him should tell him that it is more honorable for him to step down now, considering the desperate need for a strong hand on the country's helm and considering the fact that his "second" has proven herself to be unworthy to succeed him.

It is more honorable, more courageous, for him to exit this fight than to win it.

I say this with compassion and respect for his service to country, and with regard for his pain and his need to prove himself this time, again.

Go, John. Go with honor.

2. I second the "GO" part. I'd also like to add a "Take Palin With You" earmark to that bill.

7. sorry, but it isn't just about him
That's part of the problem. The fate of the world rests on the shoulders of the one who holds the powers of the presidency. Billions of people live or die at his/her whim. This isn't about one old man. It's about a "cause greater than self" -- a phrase he always spouts.

11. I don't wish illness or injury on anyone, no matter who it is.
And I realize you aren't saying that in your post.

I just think it's important to remember that we shouldn't get too big for our britches. There's still election fraud to be concerned about, and Joe Biden needs to keep everything in check tonight at the debate.

If all the talk tomorrow is about Palin, we're good to go... ;)
