McCain to open 12 MORE offices in Virginia-20 total to the 45 Obama has had
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 10:55 AM by underpants
Virginians can expect to see and hear more from the McCain-Palin campaign as they ramp up ground efforts here, McCain's National Political Director Mike DuHaime told reporters in a conference call yesterday.

Meanwhile, the McCain-Palin campaign said yesterday that it is opening 12 more offices across the state, bringing the total to about 20, and are beefing up field staff.

The Obama campaign has opened approximately 45 offices across the state.

4. Knocked on 170,000 doors and talked to 6,000 people?
Something seems wrong with those numbers. Only 4% of people answered the door?

11. 8? EIGHT????
He only had EIGHT offices in the entire state of Virginia???

It takes about 8-9 hours just to DRIVE from Va. Beach out past the Bristol area. And Emporia up I95 to NoVa takes 4 hours or there abouts.

EIGHT???

2. McCain needs to concerned about more than VA. Looks like Obama has a lock on 269 EV.
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 11:01 AM by Dawgs
McCain needs to hold VA, NC, MO, FL, OH, NV, IN and also flip NH. Even if he does all of that, he will still need the Democratic Congress to give him the election.

19. Some VA Dem offices have two or three different organizations working out of them
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 11:38 AM by leveymg
Here, in the DC outer suburbs in VA, the Democratic County HQ hosts the coordinated campaign (Obama-Warner-Congressional candidate), the Obama for America official campaign, and several itinerate Obama canvassing groups. We had 200 canvassers come down from DC and MD last weekend, most of whom went out knocking doors a bit south of here.

We're hitting 1000 doors in this county each night, five days a week.

So, the number of "offices" quoted -- and the number of contacts state-wide -- may really be far larger than the numbers you quoted. The number of organized groups doing Democratic canvassing, registration, identification, and GOTV in VA is pretty impressive. I bet there are hundreds.

I know that there are at least nine Obama offices within a ten mile radius of the Dem County HQ I work out of here.

24. That is awesome
I've canvassed twice and called once. I find calling to be more busy work than anything-especially in the middle of the day. Having a 3 year old is my excuse for not going out on nights-most people I have met on the campaign either have no kids or kids at an age where they don't need to worry about sharp things and electric sockets :-)

Good for you. Thanks :patriot:

I'm not sure where he stands historically in terms of bad campaigns but in my estimation his has been a fairly lousy one.

23. True
I wonder how hard it is at the stop level. Don't they actually sit down and write out a mission statement, strategy, tactics, details?

Would they just have a game plan and in a time of crunch just refer back to that to stop "on message"(which is all the MSM wants and the Repubs are known for perfecting)?

I guess not.

Obama's campaign is the other side. The rules ( I have read) were NO DRAMA (press doesn't need to know what each principles thinks) and THROW OUT THE OLD PLAYBOOK. They also used the first people in the door very effectively and actually used them-doing on line work, analysis, etc.-and continually evaluated performance hiring some and letting others go. They also get contributions from 10% of their supporters (not sure how that is figured) and no one NO ONE has ever gotten over 3% many not even trying to (big donors/keep the rabble out of the picture).

20. VA is just one more example of why McCain camp is clueless.
There was no sense in them talking VA for granted.

The last two governors were Dems and Jim Webb won the senate seat, albeit by less than 500 votes.

Nonetheless, it has been known for several years that the demographics are changing here.

21. Why Obama/Dean's 50 state strategy was needed
Obama's got the ground tested people already working at 100% across all the states -- even those he's not visiting or spending ad $$ in

McCain is fighting this war like the last ones were fought. Showing old soldiers never die, they just fade away

50 state strategy:
