Quale's Press Secretary: "Biden Has To Take Whatever Meds He Needs To Keep From Being Too Clever"
It would be a mistake for Sarah Palin to try and match up with Joe Biden on depth of knowledge. She can't have learned enough to do that. All she needs to do is to present herself as a competent, likeable, generally knowledgeable adult person who doesn't scare the audience by trying too hard and falling short.

Biden has to take whatever medication he needs to take to keep himself from being too clever, too smart, too loquacious, and/or too patronizing (how's that for a 1970's word?) toward Palin.

We KNOW Biden knows a lot. People aren't going to vote for Obama because Biden knows more the names of more deputy prime ministers of Europe than Palin.

It would be good for Palin to exceed the soft bigotry of even the low expectations which have been laid upon her.

1. ..."too clever, too smart, too loquacious, and/or too patronizing..."
I totally agree with this assessment. Something I've noticed about Joe, and I love me some Joe, is that he uses really big words. He needs to "dumb it down" a bit for the debates tonight. His coming off as too smart will, IMO, be better for Palin because then she wins the "relatability" (I just made up a word) factor.

He, IMO, also needs to keep his 1000 watt smile down to about 50 watts or people will accuse him of being patronizing or condescending.

Palin will probably be very dumb, yet patronizing and condescending.

3. The Reagan-Quayle-Bush Doctrine.
Dumb is good. Dumb it down. Appeal to the dumbest among us.

10. Seriously.
At this point, if I were Joe Biden, I'd be saying to myself, "Let's see...the media will rip me apart if I'm too nice, too mean, too smart, too dumb, if I smile too much, if I don't smile at all...fuck the media and their narrative. Millions of Americans watching this debate will make up their own minds. I'm going for her damn jugular. I will sound like myself and act like myself and be my FUCKING SELF."

7. Advice from GOP: "Biden should not win the debate...that would cause him to lose it"
More inanity from the utterly inane. Biden should wipe the floor with her, and call her on her know-nothing bullshit all night long. He should say stuff like

"Was that an answer?"
"I guess it's a little harder to answer the question when you need to provide actual specifics, but here goes..."
"Hmmm. I like little zingers, too, but I'll leave those to the comedians if the comedians will leave policy making to the people who know stuff about, like, policy."
"I guess for some people it's bad to be knowledgeable! I hope your heart surgeon has more than funny little stories."
"Just to be clear on the question, Gwen, you wanted us to name a specific foreign policy initiative we agree with, right? And one we would change?"
"This is going to get a little complicated, mainly because it's a complicated issue. It took me a long time to get my head wrapped around it myself, actually. But here's how I understand it."
"I read three policy white papers last week. Listen to the title of this one: (READS OBSCURE TITLE). Sometimes even I wonder what stuff like that means, and I've been reading stuff like this for thirty plus years! Here's what it says when you actually get into it..."
"I don't think we can joke our way out of our problems, so I want to address this seriously."

8. "Foreign and national affairs are too serious and important to be
reduced to sound bites, so this will take more than 10 seconds to explain."

"By the way, we in the Big Leagues don't use soft balls and the pitchers will light up your ass if you don't take them seriously."
