CBS helped the Obama-Biden ticket
The CBS strategy of airing Couric-Palin interview in consecutive nightly installments was HELPFUL to the Democratic ticket. Isn't that a twist?

The drip-drip-drip of Palin's astounding responses to Couric have really extended the life of what might have been a 1 or 2-day media storm. It has allowed the public to slowly digest nonsensical Palin sound bites and generalities one-by-one. I have to thank CBS for their approach, even though it was certainly all about a self-serving ratings boost, and burnishing Couric's newswoman credentials.

1. Remember when this was first announced WAY back when?
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 09:16 AM by Curtland1015
Most everyone on here was mad that Palin was going to be getting so much free air time. Turned out pretty damned good for us!

3. they've been doing more than that.
They've been regularly de-bunking McCain campaign lies about Obama, and doing compare/contrast on different topics--how the candidates differ in their policies. The more facts the people get about these positions, the better Obama looks and the more McLame looks like McBush. It's gotten so I start out every evening watching their evening network news. Sometimes I've thought I was watching Olbermann instead.

9. That's what I don't understand
What was the McCain campaign *thinking* to turn Palin over to Couric for days on end, allowing CBS to get hours of humiliating footage in the can? It has got to be one of the single worst campaign decisions in modern history.

Funny how this woman who McCain demanded be shown 'deference' and be coddled was taken down by two other women - Couric and Tina Fey. Maybe Ifill will make it a trifecta tonight.

11. I know
I put it down to hubris. The MSM has coddled the Bush regime for eight years, and they expected it to continue. And as much as I hate this hackneyed phrase, the McCain camp walked right into the "perfect storm" of the public turning against them, the MSM getting irked at the way they've been treated and also turning against them, McCain blithering, etc.

I find it fascinating that McCain's people can't hold the MSM in the Nazi-like grip that the Bush regime did. It seems pretty obvious that the McCain campaign doesn't have the Evil Empire/Washington mafia backing that Bush did. Day-um, I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see what kind of infighting has been going on in the Repug party--they really seem to be deserting the sinking ship.

16. my guess is they were under pressure to pull her out of the bubble
and decided that, of all the MSM anchors, Couric would throw her the softest of softballs.... which in fact, she did! There was nothing about any of Couric's inquiries that was unfair or even very difficult. Palin has been coasting on political skills, charm and good looks for avery long time, but scratch the surface and.... that's all there is.

I think Couric did a great job.

5. Good for Biden
I remember being annoyed with how Palin was getting all these huge interviews with Couric and nobody would give Joe the time of day. Now, though, I think that may be a good thing. I think a lot of people still don't know much about Joe Biden. And I think they're going to meet him tonight. And I think they'll realize how knowledgeable he is, how impressive he is, esp. as compared with Miss "I'm all snark and no substance". Go Joe go!

But she has redeemed herself with these interviews.

7. I've been pretty hard on Couric in the past, but she's redeemed herself during
her Palin mini-series. I'm going to start watching CBS for my evening news and will encourage others to do so as well. Maybe her ratings will improve as a result.

22. Alnd all she did was remember to ask "Can you be more specific?"
Kudos to her for getting that right, but really, what the hell is wrong with the rest of them? Why can't they manage that simple question, "Can you give me a specific example?"

Hopefully Gwen will remember that little question tonight. If so, Palin is done for. There is a lot of talk about what a great debater she was in Alaska. But when you review the old tape you see the same shit. She doesn't know anything. She can't discuss anything in depth. But she knows how to be cute and flirty. That got her elected in Alaska. I am thinking the American public has gotten beyond that point with the woman now.

8. I still can't believe they allowed her to do this damning interview...
I will go to my grave wondering about EVERYthing to do with this failing, flailing, nightmare of a campaign.

That Couric interview was definitely a gift to us.

10. And the shocking part: Palin gave Couric stature as a National news anchor.
:wow:

And the right wingers are furious calling Ms. Couric a "Liberal tramp"

17. I suspect there is even more to Couric taking Pailn down.
Remember- on a certain level Katie and Sarah are peers, both are 'journalists'. I suspect Katie Couric resents this untalented upstart who has based an entire career on her ability to pout at men. Heck, Katie probably has far better creds in the journalism field than "6-school" Palin could ever scrape together. On one level, we're seeing why Katie made the big leagues and Sarah was a mere regional sportscaster.

I'm sure Ifill isn't exactly impressed either.

20. speaking of Ifill, I suspect the RW assault on her integrity
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 09:52 AM by npincus
with blatantly racist overtones, has her pissed all to hell... they've attacked everything she's worked her whole life to build- journalistic integrity and respect. Ifill will not be intimidated... I am sure of that. Those RW schmucks have turned the rifle on themselves- again.

21. Kinda had to to hoard the material, since the woman doesn't do interviews
If she'd been out there talking to reporters, one dumbass interview would have long since been forgotten, and passed on as a "bad day."

26. It's helpful to their ratings
I don't know what their ratings have been for this, but many of the people I know tune in to CBS news every night now to see what Sarah's going to say next.
