After reading the Rolling Stone article about John McCain's previous life
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 08:22 PM by msallied
Posted here today by another DUer http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain

I have only this to say. I cannot believe that John McCain has earned even a sliver of the respect he once commanded. What a horrid, horrid, despicable human being he is. I've thought that his campaign's display of pure assholery was maybe something that happened to him after eight years of Bush politics. That maybe he was a decent man who has been corrupted.

Now all I see is a very craven individual who has been this way pretty much his entire life. He is every bit the drunken, slacking lout that George W. Bush was as a youth, but as the article said: At least Bush was a better pilot.

I lost my appetite after reading it. How could ANYONE think this man a "hero?" I am no longer ashamed to be thinking this out loud. He is a horrible person through and through. If you once considered yourself to have a modicum of respect for John McCain, rethink it. Read the above article if you haven't already.

1. I couldn't finish it..
I had to take a long break. Oh my god. What a heinous piece of shit McCain is. I HATE him even more than I did before, and I really couldn't abide him. He's George W. Bush on crack. Holy hell, he's W's dark side.

2. Exactly. If you didn't think it could get worse than Bush, here it is.
While Bush seemed to be yanked along by his predecessors, McCain's ambitions were boundless and still are.

4. That's a damn apt comparison.
He's Dick Cheney with a war record. The thought just gave me chills.

21. Dick Cheney is smarter, and not nearly as lazy as McCain
Cheney also he doesn't act spontaneously, he plans long term. As bad as Cheney is, and he is evil, McCain is far worse.

Bush gets smirky when he's on the defensive. This man is just downright cruel.

5. I for one will never forget him hugging bush on stage like a sad child wanting daddy to give him
some sign of acknowledgment, it was also very very creepy to witness, I began looking into his character more and was horrified. I can only hope many people read this article...it needs wide circulation..God forbid this deviate ever sits on the throne the wanna be king george had installed inside of "Our" whitehouse while we were looking elsewhere...

7. Thankfully, it's lookling less and less like that will happen.
His campaign is the microcosm of his disaster of a failed life. I cannot feel sorry for him. In a way, I once did. But he earned every bit of his misfortunes.

This article helps me understand his motivations far more than I could have expected.

9. I used to like John McCain....
.... you know, I think I heard he was a war hero and all. But I watched that CNN special on him (you know, the one about Barack airs after) and I've had a bad taste in my mouth since then. It's due in large part to his lack of acknowledgment that his adultery was wrong. But there's more to it ...... and I think I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the squeaky clean guy he's running against. I'd just chalk it up as a boy being a boy.

There have been, no doubt, people working 24/7 to try to find something to bring Barack down. And yet they haven't found anything. He's not perfect, but by every indication, Barack Obama is a nice, likable fella, of decent moral character. A good husband and father. Granted that's not the sole reason to vote for someone ..... but it helps.

But back to McCain. It's not something I can cite, and perhaps I'm looking for something ... but the more I get to "know" him, the more he comes off as a hot headed jerk. Someone who seems to be willing to disregard the rules if it serves him. I am not amused by his party boy ways while at the Naval Academy, it's not charming, it's not endearing. Again, does not preclude him from being a great leader ......... but compared to the opposition.

Know what I mean?

10. McCain was always a jerk. I was fooled by him in the early 2000's.
He went "Maverick" all a sudden with Russ Feingold and campaign reform and stood up to Bush and being friends with Kerry and Biden but then one day he caved. He became a former shell of himself. He hugged Bush and although anyone could see he hated this man he still sold his soul to the devil to get the support of the GOP base. I guess he thought after the failure of the 2000 primary he needed to move to the right but to hug a man who once helped smear your daughter by saying she was a product of an affair and was black (racist, ugly). And then I found out how he left his first wife, Newt Gingrich style. Then Cindy and the pills and his outright coldness towards her...he seems like a total Ahole now.

13. That's the thing... he's ALWAYS been a total a-hole.
He's gotten a pass strictly for being a POW. Before then, he was a Class A prick and after that, he was a Class A prick with a sympathy card he could play ad nauseum.

As someone said up-thread, he's a sociopath.

14. Its kind of sad how he has treated his "friends"
I think he honestly was only nice to Kerry to be a "maverick" but then the swiftboating happened and I don't think he was all that sad about it.

15. Still can't believe McCain called Cindy a C**T in front of reporters..
and years later a reporter actually used the word cu*t when putting the question to McCain - which McCain simply replied
"I refused to give dignity to such a vile question"

29. The funny thing on that was...
...that the person asking him that question was a - IIRC - Baptist pastor! Not Southern Baptist - the most conservative and loathsome kind - but from a much more progressive Baptist denomination.

25. The GOP could not have nominated a worse candidate...
"Privately, McCain brags that he was the "original neocon." And after 9/11, he took the lead in agitating for war with Iraq, outpacing even Dick Cheney in the dissemination of bogus intelligence about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. "There's other organizations besides Mr. bin Laden who are bent on the destruction of the United States," he warned in an appearance on Hardball on September 12th. "It isn't just Afghanistan. We're talking about Syria, Iraq, Iran, perhaps North Korea, Libya and others." A few days later, he told Jay Leno's audience that "some other countries" — possibly Iraq, Iran and Syria — had aided bin Laden."

Truly frightening...truly the anti-Obama.

for McSame. His is really a horrible person. He is lacking every single trait that one would look for in a leader of this country.
It sounds like his role model was someone of the ilk of Idi Amin.

out hundreds of dollars for supplemental insurance every month is John McCain and his killing of catastrophic health benefits for them. I wasn't aware of this particular tidbit and it's disturbing he takes great pride in it.
