***Your Official One-Stop-Shopping Barracuda Barricade Debate Thread***
If you are one of those who think Palin is going to get a whooping in the debate, sit back, relax, have a sip of your favorite beverage, and, if you're right, enjoy the debate. This thread is not for you.

But if you need to express your worries, this thread is for you. Post your thoughts and comments, k & r, and calculate the prospects if you shrewdly think any of the following or anything vaguely similar:

*Palin has wittingly or unwittingly set the bar so low she can't lose.

*Her handlers are already blaming her performance on moderator Gwen Ifil's alleged pro-Obama bias. More post-debate spin coming to make Palin look good.

*Palin's Rovian handlers will prep her, script her and feed her enough attacks to do well in the debate.

*Palin's Rovian handlers will prep her and feed her enough TRAPS AND SNARES for Biden that Palin will do well in the debate.

*It's not even her performance that counts but the post-debate spin, which will be full of how "feisty" she was or other generic declarations of victory for pundits to please their corporate masters. The public is stupid enough to hear this and buy it. The public will be told, "Who are you going to believe, the spin doctors or your lying eyes?" And they will believe the spin doctors, just like they have for years.

*Biden, afraid to appear to be hitting a woman, which could open him up to charges of being unfair etc., will go easy on Palin, and lose the debate while she belts him with a smile.

*Biden will look grumpy and humorless and make his own gaffes and lose the post debate spin over them.

*Palin will use her charms to easily win the "likeability" measure and America's notoriously dumb electorate will ignore the facts and give the win to Palin.

*Palin will use her Rove-fed SIMPLISTIC SLOGANS (tax cut this and cut spending that) to easily win the "likeability" measure and America's notoriously dumb electorate will ignore the facts and give the win to Palin.

*The debate format is relatively lengthy and gives Palin a soapbox that has some similarity to her convention speech. She will get a new lease on life from the debate, just like she got a sparkling image from a smile and nasty jabs at the GOP convention that had the Democrats reeling for a couple of weeks.

*Gwen Ifil is paid by PBS which is financed by the government, i.e., George Bush. Combine this with the attacks already under way against Ifil for her sympathies toward Obama, and Ifil will be overly deferential toward Palin and let her get away with murder in the debate. Biden will wait in vain for Ifil to do the heavy lifting for him and will avoid going too negative and this will cost him.

*Biden, being extremely intelligent, will be approaching the debate intellectually. Palin will hit him below the belt in ways he can't anticipate, unexpected shots out of left (or right) field and he will be flustered into gaffes and lose the debate. Palin's handlers will employ the sheer shock value of absurd, ridiculous attacks to undermine Biden and wreck him. It will be "shock and awe" --- hit him in ways he least expects, beyond belief, below the belt, and get him to screw up. He is a gaffe machine which has been known for years and the Palin team will work to use this to their advantage. Palin's handlers will win by verbally kicking Biden right in the balls and getting him off his game.

*Palin will make herself out to be the victim every time Biden makes the slightest criticism.

*If necessary, Palin will be wired, like Bush was.

*Palin will use sexual politics against Biden. This will make her handlers deliriously happy, because they have all been the brunt of accusations of chauvinism all their lives and this is their big chance to finally get even.

*People who are still undecided by now are idiots. Palin doesn't have to be smart to win them over. She will win with zingers, wisecracks, underhanded attacks, slogans, canned talking points, cheap shots and simplistic solutions. Biden will not be able to rebut all these in the time available. In short, Biden is not really debating Palin. He is debating her handlers. They are morally unconstrained and know that there is no second round of vice presidential debates. So their side can say anything they want and get away with it.

*With Biden's foreign policy knowledge Palin will deliberately seek to shift the debate to areas that are not Biden's areas of expertise. They will seek to score in areas where Biden is not knowledgeable. As long as Palin talks about things Biden wouldn't be expected to know, he walks a minefield if he tries to rebut.

*Ultimately it doesn't even matter if Palin wins as long as she beats up Obama and softens him up. Her objective will be especially to attack Obama, not Biden. The Republican 527s will finish whatever Palin starts along these lines. As long as she's negative even a lose for Palin could turn out to be a win. Meanwhile, men all over America will think Biden is a wimp if he let a girl beat up on him like that. "You let a GIRL beat YOU???????" "If you can't even beat a girl, how are you gonna beat Putin?" "If Biden ain't a REAL man he's no good on foreign policy." It's heads-I-win, tails-you-lose. If Biden attacks he's being mean to a woman and chauvinistic. If he doesn't attack he's a wimp, defeated by a feisty woman.

*Etc.

This is not a poll. Post your own thoughts below.

1. Um, I don't see much danger in Palin moving the debate to a level
that Joe Biden is unfamiliar with.

You mean you don't see much danger IN Palin moving the debate to a level that Joe Biden is unfamiliar with, or you don't see much danger OF Palin moving the debate to a level that Joe Biden is unfamiliar with.? That is, you don't think she will or you don't think it will be problematic for Biden if she does?

3. It doesn't have to be something you would logically expect a knowledgeable senator to know.
It can be a topic really off the wall.

Like lipstick.

4. As in I don't think she will.
Can you honestly sit there and tell me that Sarah Palin has equal issue knowledge to Joe Biden?
