Poll question: WHAT'S UP WITH THESE DEMS VOTING FOR THIS BAILOUT?
i'm simply flabbergasted by the democratic arguments favoring this bailout con-job, as it's being rushed through the senate.

even as these dems claim to be getting some substantial concessions from repubs, it still looks like the gop is getting waaay more than they've given up.

so i have to wonder... are most of these dems:

And he is one of the few Dems we can trust on stuff like this.

8. If Obama disagrees with you, that's all the information I need to vote for him.

I'm not vindictive or uncaring about the people who had nothing to do with this and have everything to lose, and I'm not going to let my anger towards wall street turn me into such a person.

15. Nonsense - the braver position is the more unpopular one.
In this case, the position demonstrating courage is to support the bailout.

Which is not an argument in favour of it, as you appear to believe (although I think it is also, for different reasons, probably the right thing to do).

28. No, that's not actually what the word means.
You're just sloganeering without reference to what the actual definition of the word "courage" is.

Supporting the bailout takes courage.
Opposing it does not take courage.

You may feel that supporting it is ripping off the taxpayers, but that just makes it misguided, not cowardly.

any plan that places the financial burden of the bailout on the backs of the wealthy speaks loudly to the tensile strength of the chains that bind them.

and Congress take over in January. Obama as much as said so in LaCrosse today. Trust Obama on this one. He said "I will order a complete review."

Bank failures, bounced payroll checks, etc. would give BushCo an excuse to impose martial law. These bastards are perfectly willing to destroy the economy.

you can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig. This should be a bottom up rescue, not a top down bailout.

13. Other: they are making the right choice.
All of our options suck now, but this is the best course of action the government can take now. It's not perfect, but the nation's credit markets simply don't have any time to wait for the months it might take to make it a perfect bill. The possibility of a true stock market crash increases every day that Congress doesn't act.

18. On KO, Paul Krugman said he's for the plan, there's no time to dither for a month about it...
Because the economy will go into major failure.

He also said something I've been saying for a week -- that there's every expectation that Congress will go back and
make it better (he said in February) under a President Obama.

I think many are voting their own self interests especially when I read they are adding conditions to increase

One of my favorite local grocers will have to close. His supplier won't extend him credit. Credit here is defined as "Bring my order, and bill me." The supplier is now demanding C.O.D.

30. Those opposed to the so-called bail out please respond
What I hear from those opposed to the so-called bail out is that they oppose it because it would mitigate the greed of the Wall Street hucksters and lack of supervision of SEC and this administration of the markets. What I hear from those who believe it is a necessary evil is that we would face even greater problems with credit being shut down leading to a major implosion of the economy if we don't act to stabilize the markets and banks. The latter group have provided testimony of the serious consequences where as those who oppose the bail-out have not offered any testimony to contradict the former's case for the bail-out. All I hear from that side is let the bastards sink, bankrupt them. That could be a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face and you may be damn sorry what you wish for. I say, on the advice of those far more knowledgeable than I, that we should act to stabilize and then take a comprehensive study of what regulations are required to prevent its recurrence. This seems to be the more logical path and why we need Obama in the White House because he has the nature to calmly explore the situation, conferring with those with expertise, and correctly appraise the situation, not some knee-jerk response. Very much like Kennedy appraised the Cuban missile crisis and rejected the military's urging him to bomb, bomb, bomb, as McCain and his ilk would most likely advise.

32. Big Money has forced corporatists on us.
Corporate conservative Dems working with proto-fascist Republicans weren't going to produce anything progressive--at least not in a hurry.

Why is this flabbergasting? Few of these people have yet felt the pain or urgency that the looming crisis is producing in interested parties. They're conducting business as usual.
