(D)Representative Harmann just said that McCain won't speak on the floor
She just said that she heard that after watching Obama's speech
Not confirmed, but she's a pretty good source. A Republican senator
just said he doesn't know if McCain will speak or not.

It will put a big nail in McCain's political coffin of so called leadership

6. He's probably going to stick his finger in the wind...
and see how everyone else is voting first, before he decides...being the maverick and all.

26. Shouldn't we be looking for his ads telling us what he did before he actually does anything?
He's done it twice before and was embarrassed both times. Not only that, we'll know ahead of time whether the bill passes. If he says it did, then it won't. If he says it didn't, then it will.

8. " Leadership" by not leading, I hope he doesn't speak it will bring up
so many issues, including his health. I really think McCain had a petite-mal today.

3. hmmmm. after trolling through Freeperville a few minutes ago, it
appears that they are furious that McCain is going to endorse the bill.

Perhaps McCain is having a change of heart?

10. McLiar just realized that he has to change his vote to go against it since Obama
made a very supportive speech regarding the bill.

This is one of his last "all-in's" in his arsenal. He is running out of options. I'm not sure how this will play in the media and to the public though if McLiar actually votes against this and declines to speak on the floor.

What say you? Will McLiar go for or against this?

23. If he doesn't speak he doesn't have to take a stance... His speeches today
have really been pathetic and stammering. Its free coverage by the media
Think about that, Its free ,and he might not speak?

15. If McCain votes "yea", it's a push. Both are done some harm, but neither is serverly hurt.
If he votes "nay", it's a huge crap shoot. He could get torn apart in the media, or perhaps be beloved by independants who disagree with the bill. It's scary, but I think he might go for it...

19. He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Obama realized he couldn't
gain votes with this but it might kill his campaign if the economy gets even worse so perilously close to the election. Politically he did what he had to.

McCain either loses votes or he loses donors and party support. He'll voteI have NO idea, but he's in a predicament, for certain.

24. This only furthers my paranoia...
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 04:41 PM by TwoSparkles
..that the Dems have walked into a trap.

I'm imagining: Rove plot: Conservative Repubs don't vote for it. McCain doesn't. Bush does. Dems do.
Obama does. Bailout passes. Economy tanks anyway. Dems and Obama are blamed. Dems and Obama are attached
to Bush's failed policies. Republicans are able to distance themselves from Bush and his policies.

I'm tellin ya...it's not exactly out of the realm of possibilities.
