My phone and DSL have been out since about an hour before the debate last

11. True story - last week, when Olbermann guested...

on Letterman (in place of the Bailin' McCain) - the signal from the Pittsburgh CBS affiliate (KDKA) went black seconds after Keith came out. It was off the rest of the night. Fortunately, my cable service has two CBS channels, so I was able to watch it out of Youngstown. I found it odd that the signal just went black with no explanation or "Sorry, we are experiencing difficulty" message. And it was ONLY that channel, and I find it slightly suspicious. And I feelsorry for all those Pittsburghers who didn't get to see some of Letterman's best work.

8. What happened to your dsl?

Mine kept going out and I finally got a human on the phone from verizon after an hour ..to order another one.

It came quickly but I was too overwhelmed to install it right away(a friend did the last one)..finally after my connection being out last Sat night late and not coming back on Sunday I bit the bullet with my non techie self and did it! I was so proud..the modem is different this time(upgraded) and I ended up with an extra cable and somehow managed to connect the dsl cable directly into the wall jack which there is only one in the other bedroom in this old attic apt. :bounce:

I would have gone absolutely nutz if I'd been off that long..Welcome back cliff:)

14. A couple months ago an idiot drug a large POS flatbed trailer through the pasture

where my phone line is buried....a peice of metal dragging on the ground yanked my phone line out of the ground and tore it asunder....

I had to dig it up and patch it and that worked for a while but last week the phone failed, but we still had dsl - which is weird, because they come in on the same lines.....


I called the phone co. who sent someone out after fiddling with the modem and he had no luck, we assumed my patch failed.
I dug the damned thing up again and the phone worked OK, but the DSL was kaput.

That was last thurs, and I called the phone co. and yelled at the top of my lungs, and in a panic they sent me a new modem....it arrived yesterday and, of course there was no joy......I called them back and we went throught the checklist again and then he finally said they'd have a tech out here again forst thing today.....

he finally went to the drop (called an office) where the dsl line for this whole section of the county starts and lo and behold an hour later I had both dsl and phone service....Corrosion issue.....they should have checked that first.

16. Yes, because those kinds of things interest me

now that I've installed by own DSL and freaked out every step of the way..I kid you not.

I also was yelling at the top of my lungs after being on the phone for an hour getting disconnected and rerouted to India several times:bounce:

I gotta say those young Indian men were very nice to this freaked out woman in New York but I did explain why I was yelling..this modem thing had been cutting out for months and I couldn't even get anyone on the phone to order a new one:)

Feels good to be back on DU.
