Why the hell was/is McCain in Iowa?
That'd be like Obama campaigning in Louisiana. Yeah, it's gone Democratic in the past, but it isn't likely this year.

I don't get the McCain campaign sometimes.

1. They think, with the strong fundy base, they might pull an upset there.
I agree it's a faint hope, but it could be that they're touching that base now so that they can say they campaigned there (this IS politics, after all) and then concentrate in the swingable states down the line.

But seriously, if they want to waste time in Iowa, I say let 'em.

3. It isn't like there is much time left, though.
This would have made sense maybe two or so weeks ago, but with almost a month until the election?

4. Newspaper editorial board.
Apparently hoping for an endorsement.

He's really scraping the bottom of the barrel there.

11. Yeah good luck with that.
After seeing the way he acted during the interview, he's lucky they didn't have the cops escort him out of the building.

10. Not very good. Average polls have Obama down by double digits.

12. Low double digits or high double digits?

Obama's gained some 8 pts. in at least two contested states in the last weeks. If he can do the same in Louisiana, it'll be in play by the election.

9. He was afraid that Romney or Huckabee might win the state
He wasn't too worried about Fred Thompson though he was keeping his eye on him.
He likes Iowa because its the furthest away from Hanoi and doesn't have an ocean
for his A-4 attack craft to land on.

WTF knows? He's Nuts.

14. Trying to pull a head fake
It was a "maverick" move meant to be all "mavericky" and throw Obama off his game since there's no way in hell he should even be there.

In other words, he rolled the dice again on a long shot gamble and, as with Palin and the campaign suspecsion gambles, came up short.
