My grandparents are voting for Obama!
They are from a totally different generation - they have said things before about African Americans that made my skin crawl. I look at them within the context they have lived in, plus the fact that they live in an extremely rural area. I love them, but I hate their views. They have been committed Democrats all their lives, and were for Hillary.

I never thought I would see the day they would cast their vote for an African American. I argued with them, I pleaded with them and in the past few weeks they have changed their mind. They are firmly in the Obama column!

I printed out pages and pages from his website (pretty much his entire website!) and mailied it to them. They do not have internet access, so I also printed out pages and pages debunking the right wing smears that they have heard over and over again at church and from friends.

Now they are excited about Barack Obama and what he is going to do when he is President!!!!

1. Good work Sannum!
What did they think of the debate? I wonder if seeing and hearing him took away some of their fears. I'm calling my MIL today to see if my Democratic but refusing to vote FIL may take that big step.

2. Good work, Sannum!
That's what it takes! Keep presenting the facts and the truth and win them over one vote at a time. :woohoo:

4. Honestly I think it was two things that won them over.
The story of his Faith, and his economic policy. I am mailing them my copy of "The Audacity of Hope"

They own tons of land, and this economic crisis has them frightened. They are quite wealthy, but they lived through the depression and I think they are afraid it is going to happen again.

Speaking of Christianity, I am constantly amazed that the firm Christians in the WH...Carter, Clinton (soon to be...) who went to church every Sunday are looked on by the religious right as heathens, when the Repub Presidents that never darken the door of a church...Reagan, Bush, Bush prattle on endlessly about their faith. It doesn't make any sense! When was the last time McCain went to Church!? Not that I care, since I am personally agnostic, but as seems to be the case with these lunatics the retoric doesnt match the facts!

5. Not being a Christian myself
I really don't keep up on such things. Hypocrisy is rife in Republican circles, though (and I don't mean to imply that Dems don't practice it, too). I keep wondering when the Christian Right is going to catch on that these guys (that you mention) pay lip service only to them during election years and never follow through on their promises after they are in office.

6. One older voter at a Clark rally for Obama in FL yesterday, gave the impression
that some people may be afraid to say they are voting for Obama.

If so, that makes me happy
