If Obama wins Ohio, Virginia, and Florida...
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 08:13 AM by Bicoastal
...he'll have such a huge electoral advantage as to be nearly invincible.

Let's pretend that the new western Swing states (New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada) all swing to McCain. With the Kerry states and Iowa, plus OH, VA, and FL, Obama wins 319 to 219.

Then let's pretend that Iowa turns Red again, and just for the hell of it, so does New Hampshire. It's closer, but Obama still wins 308 to 230.

And now let's pretend that the Heartland turns against Obama, and he loses Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin. So all Obama has now is Illinois, Hawaii, the West Coast, the Northeast MINUS New Hampshire, and still holds onto OH, VA, and FL.

He still wins it 271 to 267.

Invincible.

1. If Obama wins VA, it'll be an early night. McCain losing VA
means an Obama landslide.

If Obama takes this state its OVAH. O V A H OVAH!

We'll curb our enthusiasm and cross that bridge when we come to it, however.

3. I can't see how McCain wins any Kerry state at the moment.

The only one that might be close is NH. If Obama wins FL or OH it's over. McCain won't win PA or MI. But Obama can win without FL and OH. He has so many ways to win this one.

5. There is something very Midwestern about Obama that "gives him" Iowa
He is from Nebraska and Illinois, so I think the swing voters identify with him as a local hero.

His position on corn subsidies for ethanol fuel is the kicker.
