Palin's former aides say under the lipstick is a real pitbull

ANCHORAGE -- When she appeared for a candidate's forum in front of a room filled with unionized Alaskan electrical workers during her run for governor in early October 2006, Sarah Palin arrived woefully unprepared. When the union members grilled her on labor policy, Palin faltered.

Afterward, a furious Palin cursed in anger and berated her staff, recalled two former senior campaign aides who blamed her unwillingness to bone up on workplace issues for the blunder.

1. Pitbulls are loyal, affectionate creatures.
Sarah Palin is just an asshole.

16. Not a pit bull. She's a rabid animal — sick, mean, dangerous, and out of control. With lipstick.

"Sarah"

The one pit bull I knew well was the most adorable, most loving, happiest critter on earth. Her name was Sweetheart, and for good reason.

3. That means
We gotta catch her off script. IMO, it's a lot easier to do in the lower 48 than in the rarefied air of AK.

4. I really think
she believes that she can wing this debate. Or pray her way through it.

She seems to act like she's so great that it doesn't really matter what she says. That may be true for her base of idiots but it won't be enough for her to actually win against Biden.

9. Kill her with substance.
Biden can lay out his vision, his plans, his record.

Voters won't have much tolerance for her empty, pithy attempts to charm them if she can't back it up with solutions. Charm won't bring back their retirment accounts or their jobs.

Her tactic may have worked in small-government Alaska, but she's on the national stage with a crisis on a national scale. She left a town of a few thousand residents in multi-million dollar debt. She needs to be made to explain how she can do that yet vie for a position to help lead the nation out of this mess.

20. How much do you want to bet Yukon Barbie works that in somehow?
Red meat for her glassy-eyed believers.

Media outlets reported allegations Biden plagiarized Kinnock, but not that he had previously credited him

11. article is saying we have another Reagan here
Because of her ability to bypass the issues and go for the "likability."

The one problem with this strategy for winning an election (peripheral route, central route) is if a serious issue comes up, like with Katrina, the voters swing to the candidate who has given them a workable position. These are perilous times for candidates taking the route in which Sarah Palin specializes.

13. So, what we have is the Mean Girl Goes to Washington?
So she will be nasty-mean and try to seduce the audience with her charms and wickedness as opposed to her understanding of history and current events, her command of facts, and her ability to deliberate on and spell out our foreign policy or economic policy, including how she would fix this credit-crisis mess. Maybe that's enough to get you elected Gov. of a really red and miserable state, but could that be enough to elevate you to VPOTUS? Can you really just drop in and wing it because you're a Mean Girl?

Biden will have his hands full. I always knew that. I would be very surprised if he hasn't studied her previous debate tapes and read articles like this. And I do have faith in Gwen Ifill. So, fingers crossed.

14. I'm tired of hearing how she's "underestimated" and how she improves
her performance as time goes on (which is, duh, how most of us do with practice and study). As Fareed Zakaria said, it doesn't matter how well she "performs" on stage or in appearances--she fucking doesn't know enough to be President (and yes, a VP has to be capable of being President). She might try to learn everything that the McCrazy campaign teaches her, but that's not how you're supposed to come by your knowledge of issues and history. The Vice Presidency isn't an internship.
