Something happened between 1:05 and 1:40 today.

Barack Obama spoke about the economic crisis.*

And the stock market responded.

We can argue back and forth about whether our economy does or does not need a bailout. But I think that we can all agree that what our country needs is a leader.

And Barack Obama is that leader.

It's curious that even Wall Street seems to recognize that. ;)

2. The way in which stock market movements
are attributed to individual events never ceases to amaze me. As a result I've no reason to suspect you're wrong and obviously hope you're right on this one.

Nothing changes the fact the current proposed bailout is a heap of shit.

4. The stock market this week is unusually dependent on confidence.
So, in this case, I think that news that Obama was highlighting the importance of stabilizing the economy absolutely affected trading. The trading world is fixated on Washington right now.

5. I agree entirely
for conficence maybe read optimism. I just don't believe what's on the table at present is good : infact I'd say its very bad and certainly not better than doing nothing. They/you need to keep the mortgage payments flowing, with no foreclosures and with all mortages re-written if necessary to be affordable and insured by the USA government.

11. Yes, optimism is a better word.
And here's hoping that the Democrats take yesterday's failed bill and go left with it. More Democrats will come on board and even some Republicans will be forced to follow.

3. Thanks for this info
Just refutes what some Repub (cannot remember which one) was spewing yesterday. That the reason things got worse on Wall Street was because Obama was up in the polls and likely to president and this was scaring traders.

What utter BS -- and your post proves it! Thanks!

14. And should the market drop later today,
would you consider that to be Wall Street digesting his response and finding it, after all, lacking?

Possibly, even probably, a coincidence, but no harm with speculating. Everyone can decide for themselves.

13. That was one of the best speeches Obama
has given ..right when we needed it!

If the corporatemediaHeads would STFU and listen to Obama's speech they wouldn't have to whine about their money.

27. Great..it was even better delivered!
The corporatemedia is too busy "blaming Obama for not talking to the Black Caucus before the vote.

Nothing so far about mccain not getting the White repukes on board.

That's what the media is trying to brainwash everyone into believing. You know, that guy who never comes up with his own ideas, just leeches onto everybody elses.
