I just now walked by the McCain campaign HQ in downtown Charleston, W.Va.
The place looks like a funeral parlor inside, all dreary and generic. But more telling was the fact that it was only 7:30 in the evening and the place was locked up tight -- not a campaign worker in sight.

In contrast, the Obama HQ a couple of blocks away is always a hub of activity, even late in the evening and on weekends. I don't think I've ever walked by there to find the office closed.

McCain's people apparently are on a 9 to 5 schedule. Gotta get home in time to watch those Matlock reruns!

1. I doubt there's much joy in McCainville tonight.
No matter how this shakes out, it won't be good for the filthy rich guy.

2. Well, they're old and sleepy and count on the rest of the electorate....
as being nitwits, nimrods and brain dead.

I think we've got something really eye opening in store for them come election 08.

23. Hey, Andy Griffith is kind of liberal.
At least he use to be.

When he got his first place in Beverly Hills, he put an old 'out house' on his front yard, just to remind others and himself where he came from. ;)

bar-hopping and there were still people there at midnite!

8. On a related note, at the ice cream parlor I went to tonight, the two
girls behind the counter were talking about how the shop was going to introduce a "Baracky Road" ice cream flavor, they were arguing over whether Obama should pick Hillary for Secretary of State, AND they were talking about volunteering for the campaign. All of this took place without any prompting from me. I didn't even tell them I was an Obama supporter.

I never saw this enthusiasm for Kerry, at least not from the young people. This is all a very good sign for us.

18. On a related note, I had a Libertarian who has never voted D or R that if Obama picked HRC for SoS
he'd vote for Obama....

I have no idea why he's hesitating other than he doesn't like "big government" and "both Dems & Republican's lie", but if Hillary would be SoS, he'd vote Obama, he was dead serious, I didn't question him as to WHY, I thought it was fascinating actually....

22. Weird. As for myself, I think Hillary would make a good Supreme Court justice
someday.

My husband is an Independent who's not particularly fond of Dems or Repubs, but he's smart enough to know to vote for Obama this election year. Perhaps your Libertarian acquaintance will come around too.

6. I bet they have PLENTY of yard signs to give away
I know someone who did some psych ops and visited a McCain HQ in Eau Claire, WI and asked if they had any yard signs or buttons. They had a LOT and the dude she talked to seemed overjoyed that someone would actually want one. She left with getting one, saying she already had an Obama sign.

10. Where are the headquarters located?
I am getting nostalgic having worked on McGovern's campaign in downtown Charleston so many decades ago.

Do tell, where are they located now?

11. Obama's or McCain's?
Let's see ... Obama's is at the corner of Capitol and Lee streets. (There's a wonderful Indian restaurant across the street. I eat there all the time.)

McCain's is on Hale Street, I believe. Or is it Dickinson? I get them mixed up. At any rate, both campaign HQ are located on the East End.

14. Rockefeller and Bobby Kennedy had theirs on the corner of Capital and Lee too
My father used to own a store across the street from the Virginian Theater so I would go over to the headquarters and work there in the evenings and catch a ride home with him after he closed the store.

Hale street is a bit off the beaten path isn't it?

With a Dem in the governors seat, one can only hope that they go big time blue this time around.

Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!!!

the RFK campaign. (I was born in 1972.) He was an amazing man.

Yes, there isn't a whole lot going on on Hale Street. It's kind of an odd place for an office.

Regarding WV going blue: We're close, but I have a feeling McCain will win anyway. Obama and Biden have been concentrating so hard on the swing states that they haven't had a chance to come to WV. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

On a related note, I'm watching the U.S. House race closely: Anne Barth, former aide to Robert C. Byrd, is challenging Shelly Moore Capito, who voted for the Iraq War and continues to support it as a "good thing" for this country. I would love to oust Capito, but it's difficult to unseat an incumbent in WV.

The Dems who are up for re-election, like Gov. Manchin and Rockefeller, will win handily.

25. Please don't put those two together,
Andy Griffith is a nice old guy. Buddy Ebsen was one of the (RW) good old boys. I was really disappointed when I found out that Buddy Ebsen had nothing in common with the characters he played. On the other hand, Andy Griffith was pretty much Andy Taylor with Mayberry being based on his hometown.

17. Reminds me of the book Microsurfs
The book went into details on the corporate atmosphere of technology start up companies. The claim was that you could always tell the successful start up companies by the number of cars in the lot on the weekends.
