Wow, David Broder outwanks himself with his debate "analysis".
McCain as the Alpha Male
By David S. Broder
Sunday, September 28, 2008; Page B07

There were no knockout blows in the first presidential debate of the fall, but John McCain outpointed Barack Obama often enough to encourage his followers that he can somehow overcome the odds and deny the Democrats the victory that has seemed to be in store for them.

It was a small thing, but I counted six times that Obama said that McCain was "absolutely right" about a point he had made. No McCain sentences began with a similar acknowledgment of his opponent's wisdom, even though the two agreed on Iran, Russia and the U.S. financial crisis far more than they disagreed.

That suggests an imbalance in the deference quotient between the younger man and the veteran senator -- an impression reinforced by Obama's frequent glances in McCain's direction and McCain's studied indifference to his rival.

Whether viewers caught the verbal and body-language signs that Obama seemed to accept McCain as the alpha male on the stage in Mississippi, I do not know.

But it reinforced my impression that McCain was the more aggressive debater. He flung the adjectives that stick in a listener's mind, calling Obama "naive" and therefore "dangerous."

(snip)

There's too much here, and too little time, to mock this piece in the manner in which it deserves. And every time I think Broder can't stoop any lower, he puts out another piece of crap like this one.

1. David Broder: You. Were. Wrong.
That stuck out in my mind.

You were wrong. You were wrong.

That mantra connected more than "what Obama doesn't understand" especially since he had an obvious command of each subject and could speak about them in depth, without stumbling over names or getting Presidents of countries wrong.

How can we think John McCain can look world leaders in the eye and stare them down in a confrontation when he can't even look at Senator Obama?

He's a chicken. Plain and simple. A scared, frail old man. Weak and simpering.

David Broder, you can spin it as John McCain as "alpha male" if you want, but by all measures, every post-debate poll shows the public disagrees with you.

So, David Broder: You. Were. Wrong.

What a shock.

6. Here's the best part...
A leading primate expert took off at Broder's "alpha male" line, observing that McCain's body language actually was a sign of fear and submission in the animal kingdom.

Really helps to not have a clue what you're talking about (as usual), Broder.

8. Are you shitting me: Obama looking McCain in the eye and telling him that he's WRONG,
is an indicattion that Obama concedes the McCain is The Alpha Male.

What kind of psycho-tropic drug cock-tail is Broder on anyway?
