Obama the anti-christ. The new Republican base.
I was felled this weekend when traveling in North GA to see my estranged daughter and when she asked how I felt about Obama, a person in the room announced that he was the anti-christ. And, apparently, his aunt, is the one who told him so.

Now, these were folks in an area that is comprised of menial jobs and major illiteracy. This is the real Republican base. Underinformed and undereducated.

Now I hear about the mayor in the Carolinas that passed on the "Anti-Christ" email that has been circulating and I have to think that the fact that it has been circulating for so long is a part of the Republican machine's efforts to discredit Obama. That and the innuendos that he is a Muslim.

Just as the Swiftboaters disparaged Kerry's war record, the same machine is at work again today. They found out that the ignorant can be counted upon as a large voting block in America.

This says too much about where we are as a country today than I would really like to fathom.

Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 09:28 AM by simskl
why they won't vote for the feller that will eventually bring them all to salvation?

If they are true believers they will be whisked away to stand by the side of the poor bastard that was nailed to a plus sign for pissing off the Romans before anything too shitty happens back on the floating blue drawing board of the diety called Earth. Fhey should not only vote for the antichrist they should campaign like mad for the dude.

Fundies are morons, not worthy of respect. Fuck em all. Imagine how much more fun this place would be with all of them raptured off to la la land?

4. I agree! Two things: it's not just illiterate, backward types....
I have encountered quite a few more "educated" and seemingly normal (!) people who end up spouting this shit...here in Raleigh, NC.

But, Simkl, I often ask myself the same question: if they are all about the Rapture, wouldn't the antichrist usher it, and isn't that a good thing from their perspective? I've even asked one of them that and they just stomped away in disgust.

7. I've never had one answer the questions
I think they're brainwashed by their little cult by the time they're allowed out so real questions don't shake them up too much.

The ones that look normal scare me the most. I've had neighbors that seem like nice normal people than I hear them out on the back deck "chatting" with friends about praying over heathens and I just cringe.

10. They aren't as common up here
but they are around. There is a church nearby that actually espouses the "geocentric bible", absolutely appaling how ignorant these people are.

14. When you hear that out of someone, just ask them which of the two
candidates "does into others as they would have them do unto them" and ask them whether or not Jesus was a community organizer. That usually stumps them to shutting up.
