I hope this bailout doesn't pass today
House Republicans are the main holdup. That's great news for them and bad news for us. Because the public is not behind this bill.

Events are changing quickly. But it still remains true that this gives the GOP a ray of hope that they don't deserve.

Dems have not successfully framed this as Bush's bailout. With each passing day, this is being portrayed more and more often as something that Pelosi and Reid want, and that the GOP is opposed to.

That is NOT god for our chances on election day.

1. I don't see it that way
I see it that if it doesn't pass and the market drops 2,000 points in the next two weeks the "Do-Nothing Dem Congress" will get full blame for the next depression.

I am not saying I am in favor of the bail-out...but this is a bad place no matter what. I saw a poll this morning that showed something like 33% suppoort a bail-out, 32% do not and 35% have no opinion.

9. And that number has changed over the last few days....
as people start to think this through a bit....none of us like it, and whether or not it's trumped up, or not, doesn't matter. It will still crash this country if they don't do it. And yes, either way the democrats would get the blame for it. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

3. If the bill does not pass
And it is because of the House Republicans, don't you think the public will give them credit for stopping it? If the public is against this bill, there would be no stronger position for the House Republicans than them stopping the bill. If they vote against it but it still passes, the public will be much less likely to give them support compared to if they were able to kill the bill entirely.

4. I hope the same...
for similar and different reasons.

First, I just don't support the bailout of greedy fat cats who took huge risks knowingly and are walking away and keeping their country club memberships...It's a bad idea. I want that money so that when Obama takes office, he can push through universal health care and fix social security and medicare, tbh. Accepting this bailout will make universal health care a non-topic.

Second....there is so much resistance to this bill. I spent an evening this weekend with a pretty large group of people (dems and republicans) and it was one of the main topics of conversation. I couldn't find a dem or republican truly backing the plan. I think this would make things very difficult for Obama.

I guess there are no easy answers to this though.

5. If house republicans won't vote for it
The Dems should not bring it to a vote. They should not pass anything in a partisan fashion this clse to the election.

6. get real. at least half the house repuke caucus will vote for the bailout
do try and pay attention to what's been going on. hell, adam putnam just voice support for it on the house floor. dems would not be holding a vote if they didn't have sufficient repug cover. period.

8. Yeah, if we can't trust Nancy Pelosi to make the right decision,
who can we trust? She's done such a great job so far.

12. I'll go with Warren Buffet
Billionaire Warren Buffett told congressional negotiators that if they can't agree on a proposed financial bailout, the nation will face "its biggest financial meltdown in American history,"
