2. Putin's domestic policies were a bit scary...

But he did not pose a serious threat to American soil and his party is pretty moderate on foreign policy (Only Kasparov's Yabloko and Gorbachev's Social Democrats, both fringe parties ATM, are more dovish.). The "Communist" Party (Stalinist, pseudo-Leninist, Russian chauvinist, authoritarian, anti-semitic) and the "Liberal" Democrats (replace Stalinist and pseudo-Leninist with fascist) are infinitely worse than Putin or United Russia. After Yeltsin and his neo-liberal cronies took every quality of life indicator in Russia down the fucking shitter, something needed to be done...Something still needs to be done.
