Will We Elect a Politician or a Leader
In less than 7 weeks we will elect a new president. Will we vote for change or a continuation of the current administration? Will we elect a gambler or a leader?

John McCain insists that he is a maverick and perhaps in some ways he once was, but who is John McCain today? He promises to continue implementing the same supply side economic philosophy that favors the wealthy. He promises to continue to fight the neoreality "war on terror" with the same strategy as Cheney - Bush. The only thing that McCain has done like a maverick (cue TV show music) was to go all in and cut the cards to decide who would be his running mate.

Barack Obama doesn't have a catchy campaign nickname. He doesn't need one. He promises to rebuild the middle class and not leave the poor behind; he understands why supply economics have failed. He promises to use diplomacy; he understands why America is no longer the world leader it once was. He won't be a maverick.

A few weeks ago after watching back to back interviews with McCain and Obama I tried to distill the difference between the two into one sentence. In one sentence: "When they speak, McCain is a vacuous politician; Obama is a leader".

It is not so much what they say as how they say it. One is running a political campaign and the other a natural leader. This was evident in the debates last night. Everything that the politician says is suspect and the leader projects honesty. The politician is representing the party platform; the leader is representing the American people.

This has not been lost on the many undecided voters who watched last night. Early polls indicated that undecided independents overwhelmingly came away with a favorable impression of Obama. Many of them did so because they perceive him as a leader. He is someone who can be trusted to lead with integrity and do what is in the best interest of America.

We are going to elect a president. Should a president represent his party or the people he is elected to serve? When a president is weighing a policy, should he consider whether it will better benefit the Republican or Democratic middle class? No; he should determine whether the policy will benefit the majority of Americans.

Obama will lead America as an American. He is the candidate of the people and for the people. Obama will represent the people.

President Obama will also reaffirm to the people of the world that that the people of America can choose a leader and not a politician. Obama understands the symbiotic nature of today's world. He will reestablish America as a nation that puts diplomacy ahead of power.

This is what I saw in the debates. McCain is a vacuous politician; Obama is a leader.
