21. Oliphant's write-up -- Virginia rains on Obama's parade
Virginia rains on Obama's parade
from The Swamp by Jim Oliphant

by James Oliphant

FREDRICKSBURG, Va.--The question has always been whether Barack Obama can take the heat. But can he stand the rain?

Obama is delivering a speech here this evening outdoors on the campus of Mary Washington University and a drizzle is turning into a steady autumn rain.

"I'm going to take off my jacket," he said. "I need a hat."

His running mate, Joe Biden, is standing beside him, playing the loyal solider, even as the rain falls.

It's been raining off and on here, and much of the crowd, estimated at close to 26,000, were soaked before Obama got here.

His evening isn't through. Later Saturday, Obama will attend a dinner of the Congressional Black Caucus.

He even worked the rain into his speech, saying his opponent, John McCain's economic philosophy was like the weather.

Trickle down. Get it?

Well, it's, you know, political humor.

24. I know! He was working in the weather again about "sometimes it gets a little dark and cloudy....
I was hanging on his words, and ...............

I think the rain made for an even better speech. NO rain was going to cool his fire!

25. Finished now. A fantastic event. Barack is great and really funny when he ad libs.
It started raining as Barack was talking about trickle down politics, and he raises his arms to the sky, saying they think it's just going to trickle down on us like manna from heaven.
