Palin heckled in Philly

Via Jake Tapper,

More than 400 McCain-Palin supporters were in the bar waiting for her; more than 300 McCain-Palin opponents were outside the bar, heckling her on as Philadelphians know how to do.

Sporting a red Phillies jacket, over a white t-shirt that read "Sarahcuda," Palin entered the bar to the protestors chanting "Obama! Obama!"

Some set off flares.

They held up signs: "McSame/Failin';" "Hey Hockey Mom -- keep the puck out of PA;" "Just like Bush in lipstick."

5. Another example of her stunted development
This is all a High School popularity contest for her. She's running for student council pres in the biggest HS ever.

2. She's going to break down in tears soon
It may be at another event like this or at the debate. She's not used to this; she's used to be able to charm her way out of everything. She didn't realize the big leagues are different.

15. I don't think so
She was snarly at the convention but that was because she was reading a speech that someone else wrote.
She is someone who acts graciously and is full of smiles in public. However, behind closed doors, she can get nasty. Remember when she wanted to have her brother in law fired, she did it behind the scenes, without snarling.

31. She probably already has, at least in private. No cookie-pie, the big leagues are NOT
what you're used to back in tundra-land. I think you're absolutely correct, in search - she's been a big fish in a little bitty pond, and nobody really questioned anything because there just wasn't all that much to question to begin with, and who even thinks of those things in backwoods Alaska where life is a rodeo on ice all the time. She's not used to life in the big city, competition in the big city, and the way the players play in the big city. And I'm sure she thought that her looks and her charm would see her through this without having to worry her pretty little head about things like complicated national AND INTERnational-issue details.

Hell, she ought to be down on her knees thanking God that she didn't have to go up against Sam Donaldson or Dan Rather or Daniel Schorr or Mike Wallace or some of the REAL reporters and muckrakers we used to count on - to dig down and get us the truth. When Katie Couric can throw her a curve ball, that speaks volumes about where we are now, and how pathetic palin is.

11. Wow, that was intense.
I wonder how she felt getting into her car. Someone upthread said it's like a popularity contest that she is losing, like she is running for student council in high school. She has been very sheltered until now. I wonder if it will open her eyes at all... Nah, she's a Republican.

18. That's Philly.
If they're trying to boost her confidence before the debate, they picked just about the worst city for her to stay in.

This is Obama country.

I read about that one in a local article.

17. I don't why they keep coming here...
Maybe they got the wrong vibes out of DLCers Mixmaster Mike (the mayor) and Fast Eddie, the latter perhaps because he continually appears on Faux Noise. Their excuse is that they are trying to reach the "suburban commuters". But if they would look at the voter registration drive this year, some of the once-red rim counties have turned purple, and places like Montgomery County now have more registered Dems than repukes. If they want to get to their base, then they need to go outside the city to find them. Bucks Country is still reddish, but for some reason, they seem to be avoiding that county (maybe too much redneck drama there? ).

33. I've been wondering the same thing -- their internal polls must be telling them something.
I'll bet Steve Schmidt thinks the Philly 'burbs are up for grabs because McCain's got this moderate independent "maverick" image.

16. When will they learn that Philly just ain't their kind of town?
Just a few weeks ago, McCain was heckled in a similar fashion while he tried to give a speech at a luncheon. Seems the Phily restaurant they chose backed onto an open-air section of a marketplace, where hundreds gathered to shout him down.

They just don't get it, do they?
