Nielsen: 24% of Phoenix residents were watching the debate, a nationwide LOW. Why?
Is this because they dislike Obama and love Senator McCain, or vice versa?

2. They're guessing....that's all, nothing more.

I've said in the other threads....they only have 25K families in the US, so given the population of Phoenix, there is no way they would know for sure. 1,512,986 people in PHX.

People would have to compile all of the information from cable providers, as well as satellite providers to know for sure.

6. We had a lot of other events going on? And we are (some of us) working for local candidates?
You can always watch the Debate online or as a repeat. No biggie to miss it. I saw part of it, caught the other half later.

8. He is not very popular there

He only won 49% of the Republican primary - you have to think about that for a while.

There was an inner party fight this year in the AZ republican party and there are a lot of hurt feelings.

If you look at the cross tabs there is little 'highly enthusiastic' voters in AZ.

They are going to vote for him but it is not a highly enthusiastic vote.

Local sports teams were still playing?

Various possibilities.

1-A bit early for some and on Fridays there are a lot of HS football games around.
2-Quite a lot of hispanics in Phoenix itself who do not speak much English. Quite of lot of illegals who can't vote.
3-We don't like McCain over here. Very few stickers for McCain. I have counted 3 in total. McCain has not done much for us, with his anti-earmark attitude, well he's brought us no pork!
4-Obama is not too popular either because we do not have a large African American community, something like 2 or 3 percent. Democrats are less and less of a rarity but we're still a minority.
5-This is still a red State but the Republicans here do not like McCain that much and many (largely the Mormons) were pro-Romney.

12. L.A. was low too because for us it started at 6:00.

Also, maybe the number of debate watching parties affected it? There were a LOT and some were very big. So you have one tv counted for 10, 20, 100, 250 viewers.

I wonder too if Tivo and DVR recordings count in Nielsen? (that's a general, non-Phoenix-specific question)

No, there's a LOT of love here for Obama and McCain's not as popular as people assume. Actually, I'm signing off now to go to an Obama rally...
