i kind of just had something...CLICK this afternoon
there's a reason someone - MANY someone's - like me (moderate/slightly right libertarian lean) are on board with Obama

i'll be very honest (i've been here long enough to know some will ream me, but i'm ok with that, LOL) in that there still is a part of me that instinctively 'gets' McCain's blunt response on spending last night - lust limit it to military and security, period. or whatever he said exactly. that has a lot of appeal to me.

or it HAD. in the past.

that's the diff - i just can't go with that part of my 'head' this time around. we're in too much trouble. there's too much at stake. that's honestly why i started visiting here.

Obama, not just as a candidate, but as a PERSON, really IS a transformative figure.

this is what really 'clicked':

for months, it's been said:

Joe Biden is supposed to the be attack dog - why isn't he attacking more!
Hillary needs to come out stronger against Palin - get her!
Bill should quit complimenting McCain! He's in the tank!

i think i get it...and i think those of you who have said THIS IS HOW OBAMA WANTS IT are absolutely right. i really, really do.

what convinced me?

he means it when he says 'enough' - and he's not just talking about policy...he's talking about politics. he keeps saying he has faith in the American people - because he really DOES. he wants to transform our COUNTRY, not just who is in office.

i have no choice but to have the same faith.

3. You don't lose any points from me for being honest
I completely agree with your analysis of Obama as a transformative figure. I've seen it firsthand in people i know personally and even in our own perception of politics. There is a sense of purpose I have not seen in politics in my lifetime happening this election. And Obama isn't so arrogant that he doesn't realize that he is just a catalyst for the change we must all make. "We are the ones we have been waiting for" indeed.

he does mean what he says...

it was the depth of his perceptions I picked up
while reading his books that sold me on his genuine
desire to change the country...

and listening to him speak of his daughters' futures.
He is really passionate about securing the world for them.

He also means it when he says it is up to each and every one of us
to bring about the needed changes...about us being the one's we're waiting for...
and doing it house by house, block by block, city by city, state by state.

It's actually quite revolutionary...

I wonder if we, as a nation, are truly up for the task?

6. Well said!
I will never forget watching MSNBC during the primary process late last spring. One of the talking heads was trying to explain why Barack was NOT attacking Hillary when all of a sudden he stopped. He took a deep breath and he started over. What he said was something like this.

You know what? I've been traveling with Barack Obama lately and he really believes this stuff! This message of Hope and Change is not a political tactic, its not a stunt, its not a clever gimmick, this really IS what Barack Obama believes, this really IS Barack Obama!

Everyone was left speechless and I knew we had the right man to be the next President of the United States.

Now its on to November - Together - Yes We Can!

8. When Obama speaks--to a crowd or
to me I get a feeling that he CARES. That is what we need, someone who cares. We all need repayment for the last 8 years. It seems the word "impeachment" has been stricken from the Democratic vocabulary. I want those people punished! We are in this mess because of them. If they just slide out of DC in late January to go to greener and safer pastures I will be very angry. They have ruined life for the rest of us.

10. Beautifully stated, Bevoette!

Obama IS a a very good man and he does care about people.

When our adversaries like Bill O'Reilly state( after having Obama on his show)

" he's no phony, he's the real deal and a very good man"

you know there's something to it!

O'Reilly has never said that about a Democrat before!

12. exactly...several times last night...
even I was able to say...'well, i can see what McCain means, and i can see how people could be attracted to that' (like i reference in my OP)...

BUT, the thing was, it was still about something - an issue, an ideological or strategical difference on a fundamental ISSUE

i think that's why not only has Obama received such good reviews, but i've heard several pundits talking about how good the actual DEBATE was - that it was the best presidential debate in a long time

11. I've never had the slightest question of what party I belong to.
But, Obama "gets it" more than any other candidate in my life time.

When he talks about trickle down doesn't work. He says that the economy has to grow from the bottom up, not the top down.

He also says that you can tell if the economy is good NOT by how the stock market is doing, but by how the people are doing. I have right wing family members who for years have claiming that we have a great ecomomy based on the Dow! In the meantime, their lives were turning to shit.

So obvious...why hasn't anyone made it so clear before. Why hasn't anyone tried to change it. We wouldn't be in this mess.

13. Is it impolite...
to ask your age range? I used to consider myself a moderate republican at one time. At the beginning of the Iraq war, I started questioning what I believed and who I was supporting. I soon found that I identified much more closely with the moderate to liberal democrats than I did with any republican. Sometimes it takes a bit to really find out what we are. Took me to the age of 35 before I finally started getting politically informed. Oh, and I love your city: "Keep Austin Wierd" :)

between the age of 35 until now (40) I have changed a lot. Have gone back to college, opened my mind, became more politically conscious, and am a (closeted) atheist.
