Body language expert on MSNBC right now...
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 01:50 PM by BerryBush
...saying Obama looked relaxed and confident and McSame looked tense. "McCain wouldn't even meet his gaze."

Adding: Whenever Obama said "John McCain is right," he said it looking strong and confident, which actually made him look magnanimous, not as if he were just conceding.

1. Tense???
It was a bit more than "tense" ... he looked like an angry little troll!

8. Reminds me of a scene in The Man With Two Brains
Steve Martin says "Tense?? I'm not tense!" then notices he's holding a doorknob (large chunk of door attached) that he unknowingly ripped off the door as he opened it. He screams and throws it on the ground.

9. And didn't you just adore the part where...
...McPOW said (I'm paraphrasing), "I have twenty-five years experience dealing with national security issues, and that's gotta count for something." That's like the standard frustrated old man whine when he thinks people are ignoring him. It goes right along with "I've forgotten more than you'll ever know...sonny."

That was the real Abe Simpson moment in the debate for me.

14. I was waiting for the "I walked 5 miles in the snow to get to school" line.
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 02:00 PM by BattyDem
I also expected him to say, "You kids have it easy today!"

He really did seem like the stereotypical, angry old man who expected everyone to do what he wanted because he knew better. Last night, McCain appeared older than he ever has before ... and I'm not talking about his looks.

edited: typo

27. I nearly died laughing one day when my then husband
told our son about walking 5 miles to school every day. He had grown up in the Carabbean and the only snow was found at times on the mountain tops and he did walk over any mountains to get to school. That was when I realized there was no lie too small for him to tell. ;)

6. John, Is Partially Right About That
is what I think Obama should use next time. And then explain his differences. Makes McCain seem like the one that doesn't understand without saying so.

12. That's a brilliant idea.
Partially right is also partially wrong, which means he doesn't understand all the nuances. Not only that, but they can;t go make a commercial out of "John is partially right" quotes.

15. Gramps awakened from his nap
"John, John, you've got to get up! Remember you promised to debate that whippersnapper!"

"*%#@&!"

Seriously, the whole time, McCain sounded both tired and irritated. Who wants that in a president? A president has to at least be able to pretend that he's on his game. I kept thinking, as I was watching, "damn, Bush really was the better Republican candidate. They got nothing."

18. Who else caught his weird remark about the pen he was holding?
It was during something about spending and he said something like, "I'll take this pen. Well (looking at it) this one is kind of old. But I will take a pen and draw...." blah, blah.

But it was weird stopping to note that the pen was old.
It looked like a perfectly decent black Sharpie to me.

Just thought it was odd and weird.

26. I seemed like he forgot the punchline of a joke. You got the feeling that there was more
to the story of the pen, but that it had slipped McCain's mind.

29. I found another thread about McCain and a pen
It seems to be that it was some kind of reference to a veto pen that Ronald Reagan had given him years ago that he brought up at one of the Repub. debates during a primary.

But still, it's so weird. It was a new sharpie and he's calling it old.
The man is just really, really off and it's little gems like this that show it.
