Media on convention negativity
All I could hear during the DNC was that Dems had to avoid sounding negative, they had to avoid bashing Bush, that they failed to sound positive... and while the Republicans have said next to nothing positive, where is the same criticism??

1. Different standard
More and more I think the game works like this. A Democratic Candidate must be as pure as the driven snow before you even consider voting for him, but Republicans are scoundrels anyway so they can do whatever they want. In a way it's flattering, but in another way it basically screws us forever.

4. No, it is the corporate owned media outlets
that take the talking points that flatter republicans. Corporate media owns the American message and they are all republicans.

7. Yes, it is not news anymore....by and large....
It is the controlled information being implanted into the minds of those who do not suspect.

The comparison of the two Conventions is a clear example.....

9. 24 by 7 infomercial, otherwise known as propaganda.
The Nazis were also masters of that black art. That's why the Republican Party hired several former Nazi propagandists to work for them. (fact)

8. I don't agre with the one size fits all answer
Yeah the corporate owned media outlets are a problem, although it is hardly anything so crude as them sitting there saying "We must make sure Bush gets reelected." The problem is considerably more subtle and insidious than that.

For example there's an intellectual climate in our country that says that Liberals must be perfect to earn votes which plays into a lazy media who would rather keep the Swift Boat Veteran story alive rather than have to go find real news.

"For example there's an intellectual climate in our country that says that Liberals must be perfect to earn votes..."

What's feeding that, then?

"lazy media who would rather keep the Swift Boat Veteran story alive..."

And why aren't they similarly lazy about keeping the 'Ben Barnes is ashamed of getting Usurper Boy his cushy undeserved spot in the Guard so others could go die in his place' story alive, then?

5. Anyone who loved Zell's speech is likely already with Bush
I cannot imagine that the kind of person who would get pumped up by Zell Miller would be undecided at this point or would still even be considering voting for Kerry.

12. Media's OPPOSITE take--Dems missed opportunity to attack
As if Miller were the posterboy for how a campaign should be conducted.

10. Let's Remove Our Filter
Of course there's a double standard...and this should work in our favor. How many surveys can you cite where the people's trust of the media is low...and I'll bet many of those who did think the media is objective were on our side of the fence. Communist Broadcasting Company and Chicken Noodle Network didn't originate here...it came from the right wing.

Those who tuned in, who were open minded or "undecided", saw a lot of hate last night. They saw a lot of negativity. Now, if a person feels that angry, then they're gonna feel good about what they saw...but I sense most felt uncomfortable.

In '92, Poppy Bush supposedly had a great Convention in Houston and came out with a nice bounce against Clinton. Soon it became apparent it wasn't the case. Buchanan was panned in a similar fashion as Miller...and many pundits laughed it off at the time, but it can be seen as a defining moment of that campaign...Clinton won by being positive and the hate-filled GOOP convention that year became a greater and greater symbol of GOOP hate as we got closer to election day. Here's hoping the Kerry folk remember that part of the Clinton playbook...looks like they're starting to get hands on deck who were there then.
