What does McCain have against children's hospitals?
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 12:05 PM by nyhuskyfan
McCain likes to speak of earmarks in terms of absolutes - they are all bad. As if all $18 billion of them are going to study bear DNA. Yet if you go to the website recommened by McCain, almost half of the first 50 earmarks listed are for hospitals or health centers.

Here are the first three times that Obama's name is mentioned as part of these evil earmarks:

$525,000 - Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, for facilities and equipment (Health Resources and Services Administration - Department of Health and Human Services)

$200,000 - St. Xavier University, Chicago, for facilities and equipment (Health Resources and Services Administration - Department of Health and Human Services)

$600,000 - Illinois Prim. Health Care Assoc. Springfield, for health info. sys. for clinic sites across the state (Health Resources and Services Administration - Department of Health and Human Services)

So I guess McCain is against the Children's Memorial Hopsital in Chicago. I hope those doctors and nurses realize the damage they are doing to our economy by using that new equipment to treat sick children. I hope they can live with themselves.

(I didn't go through the whole list of 2,000+ congressional earmarks. I'm sure somewhere in there Obama has his name associated with a museum earmark or something)

Edited for spelling in subject line

1. yeah the messed up economy is the fault of the sick kids in Chicago!
mccain is right.

This is why we need a mccain presidency!

Tax breaks for the rich and no money for sick kids. Great ideas for America!

vote mccain.

2. Maybe...
You could argue that some of the earmarks for museums and things could be cut back in hard times. But some of us like to get off the barcalounger have some culture in our lives. And you could pick out all the cultural earmarks out of that whole list and it would probably be the equivalent of 25 minutes in Iraq.

However, if our politicians are going to be called on the carpet for requesting new equipment for children's hospitals, something is wrong. If McGrumpy is going to keep bringing up Bear DNA, something should be said about some of these $18 billion in earmarks going to children's hospitals. Go ahead and break out your old pen over that one, Gramps.

3. For Grandpa it's simple. A fetus is sacred, but once born, fuck off, you're on your own.

5. He probably doesn't cares much about the adults either
He doesn't have to worry about getting the best medical care, so perhaps in his eyes, all this spending on hospitals is wasteful.

8. Here's another one Obama supported:
$285,000 - Lewis and Clark Community College, to purchase and equip a mobile health clinic to serve rural areas (Health Resources and Services Administration - Department of Health and Human Services)

Maybe that's something some of the rural voters in swing states would be interested in knowing - that one of these evil earmarks that Obama was wasting money on was bringing health care to people in rural areas.
