29. That's kind of what I get from it
among other things. I also think it helps McCain objectify Obama. If he looks him in the eye, the human connection would be too much for him to handle, because McCain tries NOT to connect. It's his defense mechanism.

74. I come from a small town and I look everyone in the eye.
When I lived in NYC, I still looked everyone in the eye and that got me in some trouble with strangers stopping me to talk, but it also (according to experts) kept me safe from having anyone rob me. They say that when you look someone in the eyes it makes a connection and then that person cannot look at you as just a target or victim, but they see you as someone that matters. (just as you have said) Well, they also said that it makes the thief afraid that you can better identify them, but that doesn't apply here.

81. She never had implants. It was natural to her.
It was over thirty years ago that I met her, and she was a young girl. Her sisters teased her endlessly because they had more meat on them but she had the big breast. They all wore A cups and she was (?) not that small. One of the younger sisters is well blessed also, but she is not thin.

There is a saying, there are exceptions to every rule. :)

13. When I saw it last night I thought of the "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison.
My impression as a white male McCain has some issues his opponent. Senator Obama handled them very well. Many of the autistic children I worked with over the years had at least fleeting social eye contact, I saw none from McCain directed to Barak Obama. McCain did have eye contact with the Moderator. His eye contact was very selective.

20. It's not immaturity; it's a very deliberate slight.
It is extremely uncomfortable to have someone looking at you and to not - ever - look back.
He had to go out of his way to accomplish that, because that's not normal behavior.

And the fact that it was in front of tens of millions of people makes it even worse.

I guess he was courting the racist vote. Those are the only people who wouldn't object to
that kind of rude and disrespectful behavior.

Repulsive. Just repulsive.

24. I think it's a combination of things. But you have to be immature to choose to do such a thing.
It was definitely deliberate. And it was condescending and rude. But it very much reminds me of school-yard pranks that you'd find in 2nd grade.

All in all, it shows how ill-equipped McCain is to be President.

31. I think another interpretation is that it allows McCain to objectify Obama
Which allows McCain to hold on to his internal anger and fear toward Obama. If he looked him in the eye, he's afraid his defenses will break down. I am sure he uses this with many people and is how he deals with anger, conflict, etc. He's not a person who should be trusted with the highest office of the land.

He was very disrepectful towards the Obamas last night. He wouldn't look them in the eye, looked flustered by being challenged by this black guy, and said a lot of things like "You're naive. You don't understand. You don't understand." Read that as "You don't understand your place, BOY!"

58. "He was very disrepectful towards the Obamas last night"
Something I noticed is Obama refered to McCain as "John". Why? Because they are equals. McCain insisted on calling Bacack "Senator Obama", and it had a certain condescending sound to it. Kind of like how enlisted men who don't like the officer they are talking to- the way "Sir" rolls off their tongue with contempt.

39. very good compilation!
It's hard to get photographic evidence that someone didn't do something--how would we know he didn't do X in the next photo?--but the pictures you posted are all of people doing things that (normally) absolutely require eye contact. Who shakes hands while looking AWAY from the other person? Who walks towards someone (as in the second picture) and looks away? That is NOT normal social behavior.

I think if he actually looked Obama in the eye he could not contain himself and he would either spew a litany of hateful remarks, or slug him. Election over. I think (and give him credit here)this is how he survived in N. Vietnam. Never looking his captors in the eye. This man so personalizes everything.

62. Well, pilots do have to go
to rescue school, where they are put through some of what might be expected if they are ever captured. One thing they will tell you about interrogations is to pick a spot on the wall, just above the shoulder of the interrogator, and concentrate on that. Put all your focus on that one spot. Do not eyeball the interrogator, as it might cause you to identify a bit and could weaken resolve.

43. Dr. kestrel's armchair diagnosis:
Let's pretend McCain is a cat. Failure to make eye contact indicates he is AFRAID of Obama. He is afraid to challenge him by meeting his eyes. And Obama looks right at McCain's face, directly challenging him.

Obama is dominant; McCain is submissive and cowardly.

Either this, or he's an incredibly rude asshole who don't like the "uppity n----r" and refuses to treat him like he's a human being.

that is not a sign of fear, that is a sign of contempt. Cats don't show fear often, and when it comes right down to it, they just barely tolerate us. If they we 50 lbs heavier, they would eyeball us for potential dinner :)

44. I don't think it's strategy....just a basic character flaw
of the person who has to share space (uncomfortably) with the one they attack.

How do you look someone in the eye when you know you're lying?

You square your shoulders and deal with them head-on or

you do what McCain does in all of these pictures...avoid them.

69. Another indication of lying
is rapid blinking. McCain was doing some of that, too

53. I went back today, and looked at some video with Mccain and Romney
and when they were in conflict, mccrap did not look at him either. It's a defense mechanism. It hides his anger, and his fear, or so he thinks....

54. It's very simple, actually.
Obama's body language has confidence and dominance written all over it. McCain's has submission and fear.

for the dark side.

68. This would seem snobbish of McSame - to not look someone in the eyes.
Or it's a disastrous thought and he cannot bear to show some emotion.

77. My mother always said that I have talking eyes.
Anything I am thinking comes right through my eyes. I have found this to be true, because people always know when I am mad, don't like them and other feelings when I am acting otherwise. Sometimes I have tried to hide my eyes just so people could not read my thoughts, but I always look people directly in the eyes when meeting and greeting.

Someone just told me that mccain got a funny look on his face after he shook Michelle's hand. Does anyone have a video of the time of the handshake? I would like to see that for myself.
