What things can Obama improve for the next debate?
Let me say first that I think Obama won handily. It was among the most one-sided debates in the modern era. That said, I would like to know what everyone thinks Obama should work on by the next debate.

I'd like to see Obama improve his attacks on McCain's supposed fiscal responsibility. IIRC, Obama pointed out that McCain voted for every one of Bush's irresponsible budgets. McCain seemed to look like he was denying this, which shocked me. Obama let it rest, but I believe he should have pointed out that McCain voted for 8/8 Bush budgets that led to the deficit. He needs to chip away at this myth.

What about you?

3. The voters asking the questions will be chosen by Gallup...
I hope Newport is honest about picking Independents and undecided voters to be there.

2. blast them --Republicans -- tick them off one by one! Bring in
ding-a-ling's record constantly - how he was against the GI bills of rights,
pay increases for vets, against mental health funds for returning vets,
against the minimum wages. Shit, there is a treasure trove there !!!

5. I hope Obama shows up with a list of specifics
regarding McSame's record on deregulation, support for supply side economics and influence of lobbyists. Perhaps if he used one of his two minute blocks to simply recite a laundry list of reasons McSame is NOT a reformer or a maverick, but in bed with and controlled by the worst of the Washington influence peddlers.

People need to see that that aspect of McSame is more than just a sound bite.

8. He needs to drop a line also about how
McCain recently voted 5 times in a row against support for returning Veterans including the GI bill. Nip that myth in the bud. One sentence will do. Also, don't interrupt - let him continue to blow hot air, he only makes himsef look worse. Stand back and let the guy make an ass out of himself. Other than that, Obama really doesn't need to do too much.

9. First, quit agreeing with McSame so much.
Even if it's just to look less antagonistic before he slams him, it still has the ring of "me, too!"

Second, cut out the stammering when he's first launching into a reply. It makes him look uncertain, even if he's just gathering his thoughts. I always liked how Bill Clinton did in debates: simply pause for 5 seconds while the gears turned in the brain and he planned his answer, and then launch into a crisp, well organized response.

Third, in a nutshell, don't lose sight of the big picture: that Obama has plans to improve problems affecting average working Americans and change things for the better, while McCain will just continue the Bush policies that hosed up this country beyond all recognition in the first place.
